3 Best Baby Skin Tips
One of the things I didn’t think about much about until after my kids were born was how to care for their skin. I was caught up in so many other details, but then I was holding a baby in my arms and pondering the best way to keep Weston’s skin healthy once he was in the world with us.
There are some super simple baby skin tips that take the worry out of baby skin care. Once you’ve got your routine established, you’ll have the reassurance that your baby’s skin will be getting the best of the best!
I should probably do more for my skin considering how much I do for my kids. Isn’t that they way it is, though? We want to make sure our kids have the best care! Try these baby skin tips and remember that in most cases, the less we do the better for our babies!
Laundry and Baby’s Skin
One of the things I loved doing while I was pregnant was washing all of the tiny baby clothes. Besides being part of my nesting routine, this is a great thing to do to protect your baby’s skin.
It’s one of the easiest baby skin tips because you’ve probably already done it or have it on your to-do list!
Wash all new clothes, towels, and blankets just to help reduce the chance of skin irritation. If you have sensitive skin, your baby might as well, so consider using a mild laundry detergent!
Let the Sun Shine
We were encouraged to expose our babies to sunlight in a safe way to help with some mild jaundice. This got me thinking about sun protection and I realized I didn’t know much about baby skin tips for sunscreen! So as a new mom, I first doubted myself but then just pulled it together and started learning!
I learned that if your baby is under six months old you should avoid using sunscreen. Keeping them in the shade and dressing them in protective clothing is a better idea for their skin to avoid any adverse reactions to chemicals in sunscreen.
Splish Splash in the Bath
One thing I did know from the beginning is that newborns don’t need to be bathed until their umbilical stump falls off. And if your son has been circumcised, wait until it heals as well. Just stick to a sponge bath and baby will be clean!
It was fun to give my kids their first baths though. So once they started to be more active, we bathed them in the tub about twice a week.
Our babies lose skin moisture up to five times faster than we do, so it’s important to find products that replenish moisture while being gentle.
Dove is one of our favorite skin care brands (I love their body wash) and they now have a new line for baby! Dove has always worked well for us because it’s mild and gentle!
The Baby Dove line includes:
- Baby Dove Rich Moisture Tip to Toe (20oz)
- Baby Dove Rich Moisture Lotion (20oz)
- Baby Dove Rich Moisture Bar
Carrigan has sensitive skin, so even though she’s a toddler now, we’re loving the combination of the tear-free tip to toe wash during bath time followed by soothing lotion after! Baby Dove is helping me feel even more confident that we’re providing the best care for baby’s skin!
It makes bath time so easy!
