I have to admit that during the summer our screen time usage goes up for everyone. Our routine is a bit more lax and as a result I find that everyone in the family is playing a few more games and watching a few more videos. But as we get back into the fall routine and school starts, I do feel like I have to limit screen time for the kids some (and even for myself) to make sure we’re sticking to our schedule.
3 Easy Ways to Limit Screen Time for Kids
My kids are just like their parents. They love their tablets! Which sometimes make is a challenge to limit screen time. But I’ve found some really easy ways that have helped us!
Set an Example
As we know, we are the guiding examples for our kids. So one of the best ways to teach them about balancing screen time might also be one of the most challenging for us! Show your kids that you also put limits on your screen time!
So if dinner time means no screen time in your house, then make it mean no screen time for anyone! Put the phone down and be with the family. Your children will notice!
You can turn screen time into family time without much work at all. While there is nothing wrong with each person having their own small screen, you can limit that time but replace some of it with larger screen time as a family.
Watch a family friendly television show or movie together. Or turn on your gaming system and get the whole family playing together!
You can set limits on where technology is used in your home. Perhaps you keep it out of the bedrooms and only in a central location so you can monitor the screen time.
Or you can set time limits. Just figure out what makes sense for your family. Each family is different, so figure out what feels right for you and enforce those limits.
You can also use an app to help you manage those limits. OurPact has been a game changer for us in that area!
With OurPact you can control so many aspects of your child’s use including:
- Control the number of hours a day your child is online and using apps
- Scheduling usage according to your family’s routine
- With one touch you can block access to websites and apps
- Block apps you don’t want your kids using
So if you don’t want your kids playing on their device during homework time or at bedtime, you can set the schedule! You can add each device individually as well. It’s customizable for your family!
And to make it even better, OurPact is free! You can download the OurPact app on iTunes now. The Android version is coming this fall!
