I remember worrying about when to start feeding Weston solid foods and what foods to start with. I wanted to make sure he got the best food I could provide for him. But I quickly realized that while the food you choose is most important, there are some other baby feeding must haves to consider!
5 Baby Feeding Must Haves
I’ll share more about the food I’ve used with my kids but first let me give you a few other things to think about when you’re prepping for baby’s first ventures into solid foods! Here are the things we had to have!
One of the most important things to have on hand (for all ages) is a good bib (or 20 of them)! So once you find a style that works for your and your little one, stock up! For Weston, the easy wipe bibs with a pocket at the bottom worked best so we had a lot of those. But for Carrigan I prefer a more drooler style bib with a fleece backing. She wears one at meal time and… well, pretty much all day.
SPOONS & FORKS
This is another area where there are so many different options! My kids actually like having a few different kinds of kid-friendly silverware. Whether you go with one type or mix it up, don’t be afraid to get a lot! These seem to disappear from our silverware drawer never to be found again! It’s kind of like the missing socks in the dryer.
Kids have to drink too! So don’t be afraid to go on a hunt for the perfect cup for your child. With Weston we discovered two types of sippy cups that worked well for him. Carrigan has not been as easy. She won’t drink from a sippy cup and hasn’t been a fan of cups with a straw that look like a sippy cup. We’ve finally found some cups with lids and straws that she is willing to use. Don’t be afraid to try and try again!
I never realized just how important bowls could be as my babies grew to be toddlers and then preschoolers. But if you find a bowl that works well for you and your kids, stock up! Make sure they are microwave and dishwasher safe and you’ll find you can use them for years! We have bowls from when Weston first started eating solids that were still using almost 4 years later!
I’m all about avoiding additives and preservatives when it comes to the food I feed my kids. That’s why I was thrilled to learn about the new Beech-Nut organic line. We’ve been using Beech-Nut in our house for years but the organic line is a welcome new addition! When making food choices for your child, you have to find options that make you feel comfortable as a parent.
The Beech-Nut organic line is inspired by homemade food which means the only ingredients are real, whole fruits, vegetables, and ancient grains and beans. The line also uses recipes inspired by ones you might make at home! And uses a gentle cooking™ process that is similar to the way we might prepare the food at home. You won’t find any extra water or artificial preservatives in these jars!
Some of the flavors include organic apple, raspberry & avocado, organic banana, cinnamon & granola and organic butternut squash, black bean & cumin. Although Carrigan is a bit older these days, Beech-Nut has still been a staple for us at breakfast time. So we tried a few flavors that work great when your child needs a quick breakfast option.
I also love that the Beech-Nut organic line comes in honeypot glass jars that I can see through. I want to be able to see what I’m buying for my kids and not have to guess what’s inside. Each jar also has a USDA-certified organic seal, an indication of GMO-free food for those of you concerned about that.
Pick up a jar the next time you’re shopping and check out the ingredient list. I think you’ll be a happy parent!
The Beech-Nut organic line is available at Babies “R” Us and Kroger stores. Check the retail store locator to find a store near you. (You can also find it at Wegmans, Price Chopper, Wakefern, Walmart.com, Winn-Dixie, BI-LO, Stop & Shop, Giant Carlisle, A&P, Pathmark, Albertsons, Hannaford, Raley’s, Meijer, Nugget Market, Diapers.com, Harris Teeter, Shaw’s, ACME, Shoppers Food and Cub Foods.)
