At the age of 50, I developed some health issues. Most of my issues stemmed from unhealthy eating habits and a lack of daily exercise. I was the fast-food queen! I thought my life was so busy that I didn’t have time to stay healthy. A major change had to happen. I was very active and healthy in my earlier years, so I went back to the memories of those days to make some changes in my golden years. I began with small steps in the way I ate and started a new exercise regime.

Easy Healthy Eating Tips
Running was my passion in my 30’s and 40’s, so I decided to start running again when it came to exercise. All of my changes were going smoothly until I injured my knee a few years ago. Running was done.
I let myself slip back into my old ways and before I knew it, I was back at square one. My hectic daily life had overwhelmed my common sense again. So now I needed to set some realistic, and achievable, goals.
So I started walking first thing every morning and going to the gym a few times a week. Keep It Simple!
I don’t focus on counting calories or adhering to a structured diet, but instead I focus on what I eat. Adding fresh foods to my grocery list is a must. Lots of fruits and veggies are delicious and as the seasons change, so do my choices in this area. Remember, it’s not how much you eat; it’s what you eat!
Make a Daily Eating Schedule!
I depend on this. I write down a schedule for the whole week, including all my meals and snacks. It helps keep me on the right track and fits right in with my “creature of habit” life style. And I am not constantly thinking about what I can eat next. I am also a fan of eating the same meals every day of the week.
How Do I Feel?
After eating some foods, I used to feel bloated and tired. So I started taking notes on how all the food I eat makes me feel after eating them. I have eliminated those foods and am amazed at how much more energy and get-up-and-go I now have. I also make sure I drink plenty of water to keep all my body running smoothly and efficiently.
Limit Fast Food!
Yes, I still make that trip to the drive-thru window sometimes. But now it is a treat instead of a daily routine.
