Your baby is sleeping is a brought to you by Baby’s Journey but we know all about how it feels when your baby has finally fallen asleep! No matter how young or old your child is, as a busy parent you’ll breathe a sigh of relief. Then you’ll either take a rest while they rest or you’ll kick into high gear hoping your child doesn’t wake up before you finish your to do list.
Your Baby is Sleeping – Now What?
No matter which approach you take there are plenty of things you can do while your baby is sleeping that are good for you! Here are a few of our favorites.
Take a Breather
It’s perfectly fine to take a break when your baby is sleeping. Everyone seems to give the advice to sleep when your baby sleeps but I know that I’ve never been able to do that during nap time. When Carrigan would be napping, I just couldn’t sleep. But I could sit down with Weston and catch up on some TV or read books with him while she slept.
So don’t be afraid to at least stretch out and rest. Or grab something cold to drink and watch an episode of your favorite television show. Taking a break is great for your mental health.
Tackle a Task
If you’re the type that feels like they have to get something down when the house is quiet, then choose one task on your to do list. Don’t push yourself too hard or you’ll be exhausted when your child wakes up. So if you want to push through a load of laundry, then do one and get it all put away. Then take a bit of a break for yourself.
Take a Shower
One of the most refreshing and relaxing things you can for yourself while your baby sleeps is take a shower. This is one of my favorite things to do once both of my kids are asleep these days even though they’re older! Sometimes I’m feeling pretty grimy by the end of a day with them!
While you wash away the spit up and drool, you can also wash away some of the stresses of the day. I do some of my best thinking in the shower so don’t be afraid to put your baby down, grab the baby monitor and hit the shower. Or if you really feel like spoiling yourself, run a bath and soak for a bit.
Have Peace of Mind
One thing that can be tricky when your baby is sleeping is resisting the urge to stop what you’re doing to check on them. Having peace of mind is really important in the early days of parenthood but is a nice thing to have even when your kids are toddler and preschool age like mine are.
How do we find that peace of mind at nap time and bed time? With help from a video baby monitor!
I never had one when Weston was little so having the technology now is so amazing. If you don’t have one to use in your kids’ rooms, I definitely recommend it and right now we’re loving the AT&T Smart Sync™ 5” Internet Viewable Touch Screen Video Monitor.
We’ve got a few reasons why it’s a must-have in our house including:
