Backyard Summer Fun for Kids Made Easy
Summer has arrived and that means it’s time for fun! We have some things like camp planned but my kids are looking forward to spending a lot of time in our backyard! Backyard summer fun for kids is the name of the game around here!
I promise it can be easy for the parents too! There are some amazing ideas to keep kids busy all summer long. We have our list of 30 things to do with kids this summer for when we want a special project. But most days we plan to keep it simple with these summer backyard basics!
Water, Water, Water
Texas is hot in the summer. Water is our secret to backyard summer fun for kids! It’s one of the easiest ways to entertain the kids all summer long.
Get on the swimsuits, grab the towels, slather on the sunscreen, and head outside!
Some of our favorite water play ideas include:
- Using a sprayer head on the sprinkler
- Playing in the sprinkler
- Filling the water table and adding different toys, measuring cups, blocks, etc.
- Water balloons
- Squirt guns
- Water on the swingset slide (if your kids are old enough to handle this!)
- Plastic baby pool
- Let them help water plants
- Make a toy car wash
Basically, if you give them water, they will have fun! At least based on our experience!
Bubbles, Chalk, and Imagination
The other thing we do to make backyard summer fun for kids easy is stock up on some basic things that are very affordable.
At the start of the summer (and throughout as needed), we stock up on bubbles, sidewalk chalk, water balloons, shovels and buckets, balls, and flying discs. If your kids are older jump ropes are also a great thing to have stashed in your garage.
One of the easiest things to do is get something out of your stash of summer goodies and head outside. Let the kids use their imaginations and just play the day away!
Sweet Summer Treats
Sometimes summer can get a bit overwhelming. The kids get tired of being together all day or can’t agree on what to play. Maybe sharing fun toys like bubbles and sidewalk chalk just isn’t happening.
These are times when we all start feeling a little stressed out. But with a few sweet treats, it’s easy to turn those challenging moments (we all have them, especially when we’ve gotten too much sun) into the chance to make more memories.
Budget Saver Twin Pops work like a charm for us during the summer! The Twin Pop was invented during the great depression so that two children could split one for a nickel. Budget Saver began packing six assorted flavors in one bag in 1989! That was back when I was a kid!
We just look the signature Rainbow Array assortment in the big clear bag. My kids start calling dibs on colors as soon as we put them in the grocery cart! We keep a bag in our freezer all summer long.
I use Budget Saver Twin Pops to make every situation a sweet MOMent. When the kids are having a hard time, a Twin Pop can turn things around! MOMent is short for a “Mom-Moment!” It’s any stressful situation that Moms can quickly resolve with Budget Saver Twin Pop.
