World Pasta Day with Barilla
Happy World Pasta Day! If you’re a busy mom like me, you might appreciate the ease of a pasta dinner like I do! Honestly, I don’t have hours in my day to spend in the kitchen. And if I did, I probably wouldn’t be in there anyway!
I learned I wasn’t alone when I read a recent survey done by Barilla. They found that pasta is recognized by parents and non-parents as a tasty (88%) and easy (87%) meal option and one that can be prepared using on-hand ingredients from a pantry (82%).
Little did I know that I would be putting that to the test in celebration of World Pasta Day! Just how easy is it to make a pasta meal when you fail to buy all of the recipe ingredients during your weekly shopping trip?
I was about to find out when I realized a few days later that I had been completely distracted while grocery shopping. After flipping through The Modern Family Cookbook from Barilla, I knew I wanted to try out the recipe for Barilla Campanelle with Three Cheese Sauce, Roasted Peppers, Olives & Oregano.
Sounds delicious, right? I loved the fancy look of the Campanelle noodles. I was excited. Then I realized that while W loves pasta, he is picky about the shape. He will only eat a ziti or penne shape right now. But that wasn’t a problem. I just planned to swap it with Barilla Whole Grain Penne.
The Ease of a Great Pasta Dinner
Well, it was a great plan until I realized that our produce didn’t make it home with us. I’m not kidding. It was like a comedy of errors. Or just another case of when Mom’s great plans go awry!
So I turned to my pantry and refrigerator because I wanted to do a little something more than just pasta and sauce. Although that comes in handy, I wanted to do something just a bit more special. Thankfully we had some cheese and garlic bread in the freezer. We always have garlic bread in the freezer (it might be an addiction) because love it! So I knew I was good.
Baked Penne it was! And it’s so easy to make!
All you have to do is boil up some pasta and add a jar of sauce. Mix it together and put it in the pan. Add some cheese and pop it in the oven. Then you can get on with some other things on your to-do list for about 15 minutes. Prep a salad, prep the garlic bread, or play with the kids (which is what I usually end up doing).
So, pasta is definitely easy. That’s why we enjoy it about once a week. Though I do like making it into different dishes. The Baked Penne is just one of W’s favorites so it makes fairly regular appearances.
Easy Baked Penne Recipe
So, when all else fails and your recipe ends up a wreck, pasta is definitely an easy meal to roll with! The Barilla survey found out that pasta meals can also help alleviate chaotic schedules because pasta is versatile (52%), a quick go-to meal (51%) and allows for multitasking while it’s cooking (44%).
Yes, yes, and yes!
So, although my fabulous plans for Barilla Campanelle with Three Cheese Sauce, Roasted Peppers, Olives & Oregano from The Barilla Modern Family Cookbook were foiled this time, I had my Easy Baked Penne on back up! You can too!
