When it comes to laundry, I’ve learned a few things as my laundry piles have gotten bigger and bigger. Cold water washing is one of the east laundry tips I’ve learned. Thanks to my partnership with #Tide as part of a Tide sponsored series for Socialstars™, I’ve learned a few more simple yet eco-friendly tips too!
Cold Water Washing & More Eco-Friendly Laundry Tips
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing some of the laundry tips that get me through our busy lives including How to Wash LuLaRoe Clothing and Keeping Sports Uniforms Clean. One of the things we always try to do around our house is make small changes that are better for the environment. Little things like cold water washing really don’t effect our daily routine but can make a difference in the world we live in.
We’re trying to teach the kids habits that are more eco-friendly so it just becomes part of their way of life. Recycling is one way we do this. The kids consider the recycling to be just another part of our garbage routine. The truck just happens to pick up on a different day of the week than the garbage truck.
My kids love playing outside and I love being able to teach them easy ways to take care of the world they enjoy exploring!
Laundry is another daily chore where habits can easily be more environmentally friendly without it being hard at all!
Cold Water Washing Laundry
Something as small as changing the temperature of the water we use in the washing machine can make a difference. I’m a believer that all of the little things we can do now will make a difference for my kids in the future. I would be silly not to make these small changes to our laundry routine!
We use cold water washing for all of our clothes now. It saves us a bit of money because we don’t have to pay to warm up that water. Plus it also helps our clothes last longer by not setting in stains and helping to protect those colors we all love.
Hang to Dry
With all of our LuLaRoe and sports uniforms, I do a lot of hanging to dry the clothes. It’s another way we save a bit of money in our laundry routine too. But most of all, it’s a way that I know we can save on some energy and prevent shrinking.
Yep, I’ve shrunk a few things in my time that I didn’t mean to shrink! So whenever I can, I keep those pieces out of the dryer and hanging them up on our drying rack. Grambo and I have been talking about hanging a clothesline in the backyard soon actually. We have tons of trees and there’s just something amazing about clothes that have been dried in the warm sun!
Load It Up
One habit we’ve always had in our house is loading the washer up completely before running it. We’ve actually had to tame it a little at times. Just because your washing machine is huge, it doesn’t mean you have to try to set the record by washing everything you own! Yes, this has happened here.
But all jokes aside, we do our best to only run a load of laundry when the machine is full. We often wear certain pieces of clothing more than once so things don’t go into the laundry pile until they need to be there. Then there are exceptions at times but for the most part, we put all of our laundry together and make full loads happen!
This is one of the easiest ways for us to be more conscious of the environment and also save a bit on our energy bills! Full loads mean fewer loads!
Since we’ve gone to cold water washing for almost all of our laundry and washing larger loads, I’ve discovered that detergent matters. It’s important to find a laundry detergent that works well in cold water washing. It’s also important to find a detergent that gets the job done without being wasteful.
We’ve found that Tide® PODS™ Plus Downy® have fit into our more eco-friendly laundry habits. The 4-in-1 laundry pacs clean, brighten, fight stains and protect our clothes every time we wash them. We love them because they are the first detergent pacs that help transform our washing machine into a safe place that cleans, conditions, and protects our clothes!
They work amazingly well in cold water and I never have to worry about using too much detergent!
The pacs are perfect for all of our laundry (whether it’s the kids play clothes, Weston’s baseball gear, or our delicate leggings) because:
- They work with both high efficiency and standard washing machines (which means convenience!)
- They clean and condition in a single step (more convenience!)
- They dissolve in all temperatures (which makes cold water washing so easy and convenient!)
With Tide® PODS™ Plus Downy® laundry detergent pacs, HE Turbo technology provides 6x the cleaning power in half the time (compared to 6 doses of leading bargain brand liquid detergent, base variant)! Remember, like all household products, keep out of reach of children!
So there’s really no reason for us not to try and be more eco-friendly when it comes to doing the laundry. Laundry is a necessary part of our family’s life but it doesn’t have to have such an impact on the world we live in.
Making the small changes just makes me feel good. I like knowing I’m setting a good example for my kids!
Setting an example and getting the laundry done. BOOM! If only every aspect of parenting was this easy!
