Life with a toddler and baby means I am officially a busy mom. It seems like we always have some place to be whether it’s a play date or the grocery store. Which means loading both kids up and getting things done. I didn’t realize I would feel like a chauffeur so early in my parenting experience. But W does well when he has opportunities to get out of the house. It’s all just part of a day in the life of a busy mom!
And sometimes I wonder how I fit it all in.
Day in the Life of a Busy Mom
Recently we had one of the busiest stretches that I can remember. It seemed like day after day we were on the go.
We had professional photos scheduled, summer camp started, a play date was on the calendar, and there were two birthday celebrations. Of course, on top of those special activities, there is still the daily grind. Right now that consists of diaper changing and potty training, feeding a picky toddler and a baby who wants to try everything, keeping the house looking in decent shape, dishes, and laundry.
There are plenty more little details that I try to stay on top of but those are the big ones.
The Car is our Second Home
Although most of our driving is short distances, the time adds up over the course of a week. So I’ve learned to keep our car well stocked with things hat make being on the go just a bit easier. I have extra diapers and wipes in the car so I don’t have to worry about not being prepared for diaper changes or accidents.
I also keep crackers and a juice box in the car for emergency snacks. It’s one way I have prevented a few melt downs. If there is one thing that can make a busy day even more stressful, it’s a toddler who is falling apart. On that note, we also keep a few small toys like cars in the our car so there is something for W to play with.
Fitting It All In
No matter how busy we are and how many things I have on my to do list, I try to make sure that we’re connecting as a family. Last weekend we went to a birthday pool party. It was a great time for us as a family. Even though it was nearly an hour drive to get to the party (and I had a pile of dirty laundry on my mind), it was a great break for us to focus on having fun together and making memories.
Life is really all about memories.
So I’ve learned to relax a little when it comes to things like chores around the house. They eventually get done. And sometimes it’s more important to go to the party or go play outside on a particularly beautiful afternoon. The laundry and dishes will still be there. The kids will only be young once.
On these busy days, I’ve learned that meal time can still be quality time without having to slave away in the kitchen.
Dinner Made Easy (and Fun!)
Meal time, especially on the weekends, is a great time for my family to reconnect with all five of us around the table. But after a long day of driving or trying to catch up on chores, I’ll admit that the last thing I want to do is slave away in the kitchen. But I still want to have a meal to sit down and share with the family.
This week DIGIORNO® came to the rescue!
We’re big pizza fans and DIGIORNO® offers some great varieties that can please everyone in the family. We’ve had DIGIORNO® RISING CRUST® Pizza many times before (I craved it when I was pregnant with W). And I was thrilled to discover pizzeria! from DIGIORNO® because it looked like something Grambo and I would love.
And we enjoyed both of them. When I opt for oven ready pizza, DIGIORNO® is our brand and has been for the past few years. It’s so convenient and gets me out of the kitchen! Sometimes it even brings the family into the kitchen with me like it did this weekend!
DIGIORNO® not only made dinner easy for us. Dinner was also fun with the DIGIORNO® Design A Pizza™ Kit!
Finding all of the DIGIORNO® pizzas was a breeze during my mid-week shopping trip at Walmart. This would be the shopping trip I end up taking most weeks to pick up things I forgot during the weekend shopping or things that we already need more of like milk for W.
Being able to pick up oven ready pizza to make dinner a bit easier while still getting the family fed (and even getting them to help out) is so convenient. Especially when it fits into the errands I’m already running!
So life as a busy mom is definitely the theme of things for me these days. But it means that we’re busy and making memories. We’re squeezing in as many experiences as we can while still getting all the chores done eventually. I like to think we’re filling up the memory books so we’ll have plenty to look back on once the kids are grown.
They’re only kids once and I’ll have plenty of time for laundry and dishes when they’re older. I’ll even be able to spend as much time in the kitchen as I want to without missing out on time with them. So for now, it’s just another day in the life of a busy mom!
