Our Design Your Own Bike Helmet experience is part of a sponsored partnership with Triple Eight and Wipeout Dry Erase Protective Gear.
It came at a great time for us as Weston has been struggling a bit with motivation to really learn how to ride his bike.
Design Your Own Bike Helmet and Protective Gear
When it comes to some of my kids favorite outdoor activities like bike riding, roller skates (Carrigan discovered these), and scooters — I’m all about keeping my kids safe.
I can remember one day as a kid when I was roller skating with my helmet hung around my neck (don’t tell Grambo!) and of course, I went down on a broken pieces of sidewalk. I sported a huge goose egg for quite a while. Luckily I was okay.
So bike helmets and protective gear are musts in our house. Getting the kids to want to wear them isn’t always that easy.
So the chance to design your own bike helmet and pads? Weston didn’t hesitate to jump on that opportunity!
Wipeout Dry Erase Protective Gear
We’ve seen a design your own bike helmet kit before that came with a ton of stickers you could put on your helmet. Weston is the artist in our family so that kind of thing never really appealed to him. Neither is picking out a helmet in his favorite color.
The motivation to put on a bike helmet and go practice on his bike just wasn’t there, no matter how much he talked about wanting to be able to ride a bike.
Wipeout Dry Erase Protective Gear lets kids customize their helmets and pads with their own designs, using included markers and stencils. When I asked him, “Do you want to design your own helmet?”, I caught his attention.
Give the kid markers and something to draw on and he’s ready to bust out his creativity.
We received the The Wipeout Dry Erase Helmet package which included:
- Dry Erase helmet
- 5 Dry Erase markers in assorted neon colors
- 8 stencil designs
It retails for $29.99 and is made of ABS hard-shell construction with an EPS liner for durability.
It’s certified for safety protection for roller sports, including biking, skateboarding, roller-skating and scooters and is designed for kids ages 3 to 14.
Wipeout Dry Erase Protective Gear is great for kids to get creative on their own or with friends, a fun birthday gift and party activity, as well as a super choice for holiday or with a new bike, skateboard or scooter as kids outgrow their old one.
It’s changed our bike riding experience with Weston. He’s more motivated to design his helmet for the day and then get outside and work on pedaling (which has been his challenge)!
He loves the dry erase aspect that means he can have a new helmet design every time that he goes out to ride. He’s just getting into checking out the video tutorials available on iwipeout.com for even more design inspiration!
We also received the Wipeout Dry Erase Protective 3-Pack which includes:
- wrist guards
- elbow pads
- 2 markers
It retails for $24.99. Weston asked for a skateboard for Christmas (and got one) so I have a feeling he’ll be feeling brave enough to try it out finally! All it takes is being able to show off his style in his safety gear to get him outside of his comfort zone!
So while I was just excited to explore a true design your own helmet kit, I got something even more than I expected. My son has a renewed interest in bike riding that he had written off as being too challenging for him.
It’s amazing to seem him so excited about it again!
Wipeout Dry Erase protective gear is available at Toys R Us, Target, Academy, Scheel’s, Amazon and other leading retailers.
