Disney Princess Holiday Magic
The holidays are right around the corner and it’s a magical time for most kids. I know a few friends whose children have already made wishlists. I’ve already started shopping for a few things for W. But there is a little girl at my mom’s church who is currently dealing with health issues. As if that wasn’t enough for a young family to handle, her father was recently deployed. So the family is facing the holiday season without him. Grambo and I decided we wanted to bring some Disney Princess Holiday Magic to one little girl’s life this year!
Before we headed out to Walmart to take advantage of their layaway program, I downloaded the Disney Princess Augmented Reality App. It’s available for Apple and Android devices and it’s free! I recently discovered the world of augmented reality apps. They make going to Walmart and doing my grocery shopping a bit more fun!
I can see how little girls would fall in love with app. I’m definitely not a kid anymore but I had a great time designing my own dress and carriage for the ball. The options were limited until I headed to Walmart to scan some of the trigger points. But it only made me more excited to get into the store to see what magic might happen with the app!
Between the app and looking forward to shopping for a special little girl, I was definitely amped up!
Cinderella Magic for the Holidays
Grambo and I were immediately sucked into the magic of all of the wonderful Cinderella products at Walmart. There is a variety of Disney Princess Toys at Walmart, but I couldn’t resist the classic tale of Cinderella. It was one of my favorites as a child and I want to share that kind of magic with our special little girl.
The Cinderella display was also a trigger point for the Disney Princess Augmented Reality App! Yes, I was a little excited about that. It turns out I hadn’t completed my trip to the ball yet though. So I had to do that before I unlocked anything else. Grambo was amused by my spinning in a circle in the Walmart aisle.
I stand by my claim that I was following the little bird in the app!
The Disney Princess logo, Cinderella, and the Fairy Godmother can all be scanned to unlock more content and interactive games. I think the app is a great way to keep kids entertained while you do some shopping. It’s also a great way to bring the magic of Disney Princesses to life in another way.
Buying Cinderella Using Walmart Layaway
After I finished playing with the app, Grambo and I got down to come serious shopping. It was hard to choose what to get because there was such a large selection of Disney Princess toys at Walmart. You can see what we had to choose from in my #DisneyPrincessWMT Google+ album.
We had a plan in mind though. The women’s group that my mom is part of is going to buy smaller items to wrap up for the little girl as well. So we were in charge of choosing some bigger items to be the foundation of the Christmas gift package we are going to give to her. So we finally decided on a few things and headed to check out the layaway program at Walmart.
I feel pretty passionate about the revival of layaway programs. Each program I hear about makes me smile because there was a time when my family depended on layaway during the holidays. There was a stretch of years growing up when the only way my mom could afford to get my sister and I some of the toys on our wishlist was layaway.
I feel very lucky that J and I are able to buy gifts for W without needing layaway. But I will admit that it’s nice to be able to go shopping when everything is in stock. We are able to get exactly what we want for him and pay for it over time. It makes it just a bit easier for us even if we are not totally dependent on it.
I loved how easy it was to set up a layaway account for our Disney Princess gifts! I paid a simple $5 fee to open the account and then put 10% down. I loved that I was able to get nearly $150 in toys for a sweet little girl but only paid about $20 on this trip to the store. It’s definitely an affordable way to put Christmas together!
Plus Walmart had a huge selection of Disney Princess toys that were included under the layaway policy. Each item has to be valued at $15 or more so there were a few smaller items that I would have liked to include, but we will just pick them up as we do our shopping each week. The minimum purchase of $50 wasn’t an issue for us either.
I have until December 14th to pay for all of our gifts but I will be picking them up the week before that. We need time to have a gift wrapping party with all of the ladies! That gives me three weeks to pay for our gifts. I can definitely afford doing that! Plus it gives me something to look forward to while I’m doing my weekly grocery shopping chore!
I still want to pick up Cinderella on DVD to add t our gifts but the shelves at Walmart were empty! So I will probably be adding it to our layaway next time we go!
What would you put on layaway this holiday season?
