I’m fresh off my sponsored trip to the Walt Disney World Resort to learn more about Disney’s Zootopia that opens in theaters on March 4th and I’m so excited to share with everyone! There are so many reasons why your family should stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge including the fact that the production team started their research for their film right at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
Why Should Your Family Stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge?
For my family, the excitement of a Disney World vacation starts from the moment we step off the plane. My visit to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the Zootopia press event started the same way as our family vacations — you have to get to the resort to kick off the memory making!
Disney’s Magical Express
One of the best things for us about staying on property at Walt Disney World is the transportation provided to and from the airport by the Magical Express service. We don’t have to worry about renting a car or even waiting to get our luggage. From the moment we step off the plane, we’ve been taken care of with that special Disney magic.
I received that same treatment on my trip to the Animal Kingdom Lodge and was so thankful to settle down on the bus after my flight and enjoy my ride to the hotel. It’s a must for any family traveling to a resort on the Walt Disney World property.
But why choose the Animal Kingdom Lodge over some of the other great resorts in the area?
Extra Magic Hours
One of my favorite things about staying on property at the Walt Disney World Resort is the Extra Magic Hours offerings. They’re extended theme park hours that are a special perk for those who stay at select Disney World resort hotels. Sometimes they are in the morning and sometimes at night so there are great opportunities for families of all types to get some extra time in the parks!
Beauty of Africa
From the moment I stepped inside the lobby of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, I was surrounded with rich theming as the lobby rose high about me. The huge dormer windows at the end of the lobby provided amazing views both day and night. And when I walked down the steps and stepped just outside the lobby, I was swept away to the savanna and the animals that live there up close and in person!
It’s a beauty that you won’t find at any other hotel. The magic is alive and well.
Rooms for Everyone
As a family of five when we travel, having enough space for everyone is always on our minds. The great thing about Animal Kingdom Lodge is that they offer a variety of rooms. From standard rooms that you would expect to one- and two- bedroom suites. There are even vacation villas next door at Kidani Village! If you’re looking for different bed options, there are rooms with king beds, queen beds, and even bunk beds! There is really a room for every family!
And the theming in the rooms is as rich and beautiful as the rest of the hotel! Some rooms have amazing savanna views where you can wake up with the animals. Others have the gorgeous pool view I had where I could feel the energy and magic of Disney when I sat on my balcony.
Don’t Feed the Animals
But do feed yourself at some of the amazing dining options on the Animal Kingdom Lodge property! Justin and I first had the chance to experience Boma – Flavors of Africa on our honeymoon in 2008 and we’ve been in love since! It’s buffet style dining that gives you the chance to try out some amazing African food! If you’ve never been there, GO! NOW!
There are some other great dining options on the property including:
- The Mara is the quick-service eatery that offers a variety of American and African options throughout the day.
- Victoria Falls is a gorgeous mezzanine lounge where you can try gourmet coffees and teas, South African vintage wines, international beers, and cocktails.
- Jiko – The Cooking Place which features cuisine from our the world.
- Sanaa is located at Kidani Village and you can experience the art of African cooking with Indian flavors. It’s a great family-oriented restaurant with amazing views of the Sunset Savanna so you can check out those animals that Animal Kingdom Lodge is famous for!
The World of Animals
If your family loves animals, then a stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge is a great option. There are over 200 mammals and birdsliving on the savanna at the resort including:
- greater kudu
- Grant’s zebra
- marabou stork
You can see different animals at all times of the day and night. It’s a blast to stop by the savanna when you’re coming back from a day in the parks and do some animal spotting!
And when you get home, you can get even more involved in the animal world by checking out Disney’s Zootopia! It hits theaters on March 4th and will give you a whole new look into the lives of some of the animals you might see on your visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!
