Now that the kids are getting older, we’re enjoying taking them on more family trips. It’s a lot of work to travel with young kids but we’ve got some easy family vacation tips to help you have the best vacation (or even staycation) ever!
Family Vacation Tips
When it comes to traveling with the kids, it can feel like there’s a lot to get done before you even leave your house. But the magic of experiencing new places with them is worth it all. There’s a few things we’ve learned in our recent travels with the kids so here are a few of our favorite family vacation tips. Our favorite family vacation destination is Orlando, Florida and we’re looking forward to going back again soon!
Travel as Light as Possible
When you’re packing for your vacation, pack as light as possible. When you’re traveling with kids the less you have to bring with you, the less you have to deal with. Of course, you also want to make sure that you’re prepared. But remember that your trip is probably only a few days, not a few weeks. And most destinations have stores where you can pick up things that you need.
So try to stay focused on what you actually need so you have less to deal with while also corralling excited kids! I have trouble with this when packing backpacks for when we fly. I always pack way too many extra clothes and things to keep the kids entertained. My goal on our next trip is to only pack what I know we’ll need and use!
Family vacations can get a little hectic and chaotic, especially when the kids get overwhelmed or tired. Even when things are going as you planned or as perfectly as you’d like, do your best to stay focused on the experience and all of the good things happening.
On our most recent trip to Orlando, Grambo got sick at the beginning and didn’t feel well the entire week. But we did our best to still get out and experience a little bit so we had the memories to take home. Did we plan to spend as much time in the room resting? No. But we did our best to stay positive and do what we could.
Childproof Your Room
As soon as you settle into your hotel room, be sure to make it as childproofed as you need so you can actually relax. If you need outlet covers, bring some with you or pick some up on the way to the hotel. Think about things like cabinet locks and other safety measures.
For us, we pick up all of the pens in the room and put all of the phones and remotes away. It’s not a safety issue but it saves us a lot of headaches! It’s just a hassle to call down to the front desk when your toddler immediately orders pay per view on the television!
Find a Hotel That Fits
One of our newest family vacation tips has to do with choosing your hotel. When we travel with kids we’re looking for a property that works for all of us. That means it has to be kid-friendly but also feel like the adults are on vacation.
Radisson hotels include some of our favorite properties for our vacations. They offer things my family want on vacation like free high speed internet and wonderful pools. But the decor and hospitality of the hotels make the adults feel like we’re on vacation too.
These are just a few photos of the Radisson locations in Orlando, Florida! They offer the Radisson Hotel Orlando – Lake Buena Vista and the Radisson Resort Orlando – Celebration. If you’re planning a trip to Orlando, both properties are centrally located to all of the amazing attractions we love as a family!
