Before I became a mom, I don’t think I realized just how many stages of parenting I would go through! I knew we would have the newborn stage, then the toddler stage, preschool, and then off to school. But what I didn’t realize is just how many smaller stages would be in each of those bigger ones! So many milestones and so many memories to be made as babies grow up!
Feeding Through the Stages of Parenting
Whether it’s learning to walk or talk or even potty training, each stage of raising kids has it’s own small steps towards success. Feeding was one of my favorite stages of parenting because it was always so much fun to see my kids try new things.
The newborn stage was always an exciting one because of the newness of the new baby. Of course there was learning the new dynamic and learning skills like nursing and taking a bottle. So much learning that I had to do right along with my children. But there is something special about holding that new little life in your arms. Oh, and that newborn smell! Who can resist that newborn smell?
Watching my newborns grow more and more into a baby with personality and quirks of there own will be something that will always stick with me. It was fun to see how my kids were different in those early days. Carrigan was definitely silly from the start and she’s still really silly these days!
I also love that by the time my babies were about three months old, we really seemed to have our feeding routine down. For us, it was a combination of nursing, pumping, and formula bottles that worked best! Seeing my babies grow and thrive was a beautiful thing! I think every parent looks forward to that!
Both of my kids really started to develop their active and adventurous side when they were about six to seven months old. Starting to army crawl across the floor in a quest for a favorite toys and ready to sit in the high chair and explore the food they’d been watching me eat for weeks. Avocado was a favorite from the start and my kids both like sweet potatoes and bananas as well!
Of course a baby on the move means more work for the parents! That mischief is just the beginning and my kids have always kept me on my toes with their exploration!
Baby on the Move
For my kids, turning nine to ten months old meant babies on the move! Both were masters of the army crawl and could make great time when they wanted to get somewhere! Both were crawling by ten months and were also ready to move ahead on their feeding exploration!
And trust me, my kids were both ready for it! They’ve always been great when it comes to feeding and eating!
Choosing Baby’s Food
By the time my kids were older babies, I wanted to make sure they were learning the basic skills they would need to really tackle table food with the rest of the family. Learning to chew and mash while getting comfortable with a variety of tastes and textures has always been important to me.
