Abbott partnered with influencers such as me for its Ensure Program. As part of this Program, I received compensation for my time. The opinions and thoughts in this post, though, are mine.
I just retired and am now a 24/7 grandmother for sure. So when Ensure asked to partner with us, I knew that sharing how I’m figuring out a retirement routine was a great match! Check out how things are going for me these days!
Figuring Out a Retirement Routine
I left the corporate world at age 63 to pursue growing my own home-based business and to spend more time with my grandkids. So now all my daily routines are changing and that’s one of the biggest challenges I’m facing. As I figure it out, my focus is continuing to lead a healthy lifestyle and setting a great example for Weston and Carrigan!
Time For A New Routine
It’s hard changing the pattern of daily life after so many years. I was always an early riser and loved going for a short run before getting ready for work. It was a time for quiet reflection and preparing for the hectic day. Now I’m tempted to stay in bed instead and I did let myself indulge for a few weeks. Now it’s time to get back on the exercise trail again!
Running used to be my morning joy. I ran for miles and competed in numerous road races with the half marathon being my favorite. But I injured my knee several years ago and the injury didn’t even happen while I was running! Just a simple wrong twist of the knee.
What frustration. It put an end to my running. As mentioned in the AARP-Abbott Survey above, adults 50+ are in good health but want to have more energy to participate in activities throughout the day. This is me! Like the 74% surveyed, I’m working out weekly.
I’m doing it by walking daily which keeps me active and happy. We also just joined the gym again so workouts on the elliptical, along with strength training in the weight room, will keep me in shape. They also have an awesome pool that we can enjoy with the kids!
I must admit I have a sweet tooth, so I have to make sure I don’t snack all the time now that I’m at home all day.
Supplements and vitamins have always played a major role in my nutrition routine, as well as lots of fruits and veggies. But now I have time to experiment with recipes and new taste treats.
I’m not a big meat eater, so finding different ways to get the protein I need is a constant search. I’m not alone either! The AARP-Abbott Study 2016 found that only 17% of us knew the amount of protein we need in our diets after 50! I’m not sure I’m getting enough so supplements like Ensure Enlive make this routine easy and delicious.
Retirement is giving me so much more time with my grandkids. I live in the same house with them so I have endless opportunities to play with them and enjoy their cuteness. They also like to go on walks with me, and of course, getting them to go to the swimming pool is a breeze. Incorporating swim time fun with them, while keeping my muscles toned and moving in a way that keeps my joints protected, is a great activity.
Best Time of My Life
I am determined that the best time of my life is right now! And with many years still ahead of me, I choose my new retirement routine to be getting healthy and staying healthy! It’s easy to do if you’re focused on your goals!
