When it comes to all of the baby milestones that happen over the first few years of life, I recently went through one milestone that always feels like a huge one for me — first birthday party planning. There is just something about that first birthday. It’s an amazing celebration of a year of adventure but at the same time it marks a time of change. I have always found it to be really exciting and really emotional.
The First Birthday Party Planning Rollercoaster
Planning the first birthday party feels like riding a rollercoaster to me! The day I took C’s last monthly picture to mark her twelfth month almost made me cry. I was relieved that I didn’t have to stand on my head while singing the ABCs and trying to take photos at the same time. Yes, that’s what it felt like those last few monthly pictures. She wanted nothing to do with sitting in the chair next to a sticker.
But there were also some tears because it felt like we were reaching the end of the first stage of our long journey together.
And then there was the true party planning. In the age of Pinterest it can be overwhelming. I wanted it to be perfect. The perfect first birthday party. The planning is like that slow climb up the big hill.
And then we hit the top of the hill and I realized that my baby didn’t care if it was perfect.
C would be happy with a cupcake and some gifts as long as she was with the people she loves. And that was when I was able to take a breath and just go along for the ride. An amazing and fun ride to watch her enjoy celebrating her first birthday.
Transitioning to Toddlerhood
So now she’s one and she is more of a toddler than a baby. She is walking and wants to do everything that her big brother does.
No this didn’t just happen suddenly on her first birthday but now that she’s one, she just seems like she has more kid in her most of the time. Less baby, more kid.
And I’m handling it okay as I enjoy watching her grow and explore the world.
Luckily Babies “R” Us is still a huge support for us during this stage of parenthood. They offer award-winning brands that we depend on like Pampers, the #1 choice of hospitals, Dreft, the #1 choice of pediatricians and even Duracell, the #1 trusted brand of parents, pharmacists, and first responders.
We still need a lot of the same products we’ve needed over the last year so Babies “R” Us is still one of our most frequented stops. And we seem to need a lot more batteries now. So I’m always glad I can snag them on the way out!
And from January 2nd through January 17th, you can get a $10 Babies “R” Us gift card with a purchase of Pampers Jumbo Pack diapers or Easy-Up training pants, Pampers value box of wipes (13x) & Dreft 50oz detergent!
