We were loaned a Ford Fusion SE for review purposes. All opinions and experiences are 100% our own. #FordTX
Recently we have been researching new vehicles that would work for our family. We upgraded to a mini van earlier this year (yes, I’m now a mini van mom and embracing it with ease) but we’re looking for what our next move will be when it comes to getting a new car for Grambo. She has always been a fan of Ford vehicles and recently the Ford Fusion SE had caught her eye as a possibility.
So it was time for us to put it through the test and introduce it to our family life. Would it pass the family test?
The Ford Fusion SE Meets Family Life
While features such as exterior and interior styling definitely catch my eye, when it comes to sedans space is always on my mind. I’m looking for space in the areas where we need space and I’m looking for comfort. If a vehicle has those things, then everything else is like a cherry on top.
And the exterior and interior styling and features were definitely like a cherry on top. When the Ford Fusion SE pulled up in front of my house it might have been love at first sight. I loved the Sunset color and the charcoal black leather interior. It definitely had style without feeling like it was too flashy for me. It was love.
Before I could check out just how much space the Ford Fusion had to offer, J was ready to scope out the media and other features. He’s all about the technology, especially when it comes to cars.
Some of our favorites features included:
- Keyless entry keypad on the driver’s side door
- Tilt steering wheel with cruise control and audio controls
- USB ports
- Generously sized cup holders
- Sirius Satellite radio
- Auto Start-Stop
But when it comes to family life, space is the most important thing. So Mommy got down to business.
There was plenty of leg room in both the front and back seats without any car seats installed in the car. I could tell that with a quick glance. So I had to check out the trunk. With two young children, trunk space is extremely important. When we grocery shop for a family of five, we have a lot of bags. And we always have a stroller folded up in the trunk so that we’re prepared.
The Ford Fusion has plenty of room for both groceries and a stroller. We could even put a second stroller in the back if we wanted and still have room! Based on trunk space, this would be great for our visits to Dallas to see friends. We would definitely be able to pack in everything we needed for a weekend away with two young kids!
So it was on to the real test.
The most important test.
The car seat test.
When it comes to the car seat test, I get the best of both worlds. I get to see how easy it is to install seats both forward facing and rear facing. It’s definitely a true test for how well a vehicle works for us. If I can’t get the seats into the car then we can’t drive it. And if it’s challenging then… well, I don’t go down gracefully. I’ll admit it.
But the Ford Fusion SE passed the car seat test! I was able to install the forward facing seat in just a few minutes. There was plenty of space for me to get in the car and get the seat properly installed. The rear facing seat took me a bit longer but I did it without getting frustrated. And there was enough head room for me to get in the car and get it nicely secured with the LATCH system.
And I loved that even my long-legged little girl has room for her feet when she’s in the car seat in the Ford Fusion! The car definitely passed the mom test for space!
We all enjoyed our week driving it around town. It worked well for our everyday errands and for going across town (over an hour drive) to enjoy a party with our family!
