Going Green with Baby Steps

Going Green - Cloth Diapering

Going Green with Baby Steps

Since W was born, I’ve been trying to move towards living a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Cloth diapers were just the beginning of our going green attempts. I have friends who are super green and I can admit that I don’t think I will ever be the most eco-friendly mom on the block. But you don’t have to go to extremes to live a lifestyle that is more green.

By making small changes, you can make a big difference in the world. I want W to have the best world he can to grow up in. So, there are a few things we’ve done that haven’t inconvenienced us at all. Many of my friends who don’t worry about green living think we’re crazy but easing into one change at a time has worked for us!

Going Green with Cloth Diapers

Cloth diapering was something I knew I wanted to do before I even got pregnant with W. Grambo cloth diapers my sister when she was little and I knew I wanted to give it a go. When I learned about all of the advancements in cloth diapers, I was sold. I had a blast putting together our diaper stash and was disappointed when W grew out of his one size diapers when he was only about 8 months old.

I’ve been debating trying a few of the larger ones out again now that he’s slimmed down. But he’s so tall that I haven’t tried it. We’re close to learning to use the potty so I may just keep them stashed away for number two. And I love knowing I already have diapers for when we have a new baby!

Going Green - Recycling

Going Green with Recycling

When we were looking for a new home, the availability of a curbside recycling program was near the top of our must-have list. We had started recycling a few months before we moved. Taking it and dropping it off at the recycling bin was a chore we were all willing to do, but something more convenient was definitely the dream!

So when we started looking in a neighborhood we were pretty sure we wanted to buy in, we were thrilled to learn that they had curbside recycling! The best part is that we don’t even have to sort anything. It all goes into one bin and once a week we put it out to be picked up!

It’s easily become just another part of our everyday lives!

Going Green - Cleaning

Going Green Around the House

Let’s face it, the house needs to be cleaned. It’s just a fact of life. So I’ve tried a number of greener cleaners over the past year or so. I’ve tried things that have to be ordered online. I’ve tried making my own detergents. And I’ll be honest… I go back to what’s convenient. I got back to the products I can grab off the shelves when I’m grocery shopping.

Clorox Green Works is one way I’m making better choices when cleaning my home. I’ve tried a number of eco-friendly cleaners but will admit that I often end up going back to brands I’ve used for years. So Clorox has made it easier for me to take baby steps towards going green when it comes to cleaning. I’ll get there!

If you can relate to my baby steps then you might be able to relate to the Green Housewives in their new video “Greener Than Thou”.

How do you take small steps towards going green?
