Healthy Options for Feeding Toddlers
As a new mom, I worried a lot about how I would feed my newborn son. Even with all of the challenges we had with breastfeeding before moving on to formula feeding, I realize how simple it was compared to feeding a toddler! My son eats a lot of things that I swore he wouldn’t have very often when I was pregnant. Fruit snacks and chicken nuggets are the two that come to mind most often.
They are convenient which is what I fall back on when things get busy around here. But as summer rolls around and I start spending every day with W, I made a vow to introduce more variety into his diet. And I want the new additions to be healthy! He recently discovered both frozen yogurt and real ice cream. He is a huge fan of both and calls them both ice cream.
W discovered an ice cream brand that is a tradition here in Texas. While it’s okay every once in a while, I’m definitely on the hunt for a healthier option when it comes to frozen treats for the summer!
Fruti Natural Fruit Bars
On my most recent trip to Sam’s Club, I discovered Fruti frozen fruit bars and something told me I had found a winner. Since I’m all about things being convenient, I loved that Sam’s Club had a large variety pack of Fruti bars for a great price. It makes it easier to stock my freezer all summer long with fewer shopping trips.
And there were four smaller boxes inside the larger box. The smaller boxes made it easy to fit all 16 bars in our freezer with plenty of room for our other food. Freezer space is at a premium around here so that is important to me!
When I broke out the first Fruti bar, W was more than willing to try the new “popsicle.” And it was gone within minutes! The Strawberry Cream is his favorite flavor but he always wants to eat my favorite Caribbean Mix too! Because the all natural fruit bars have no added colors or flavors and a limited amount of added sugar, I feel good letting him enjoy them. He’s getting some fruit in!
It has been an easy swap to make and has inspired me to begin collecting ideas to encourage my toddler to eat a more varied diet. I found a few great recipes that look easy and delicious!
I am feeling more and more inspired to feed my little man better than I have been doing. And it will still be easy and convenient!
