Baby Can Learn with Heirloom Wooden Toys (Review)

Heirloom Wooden ToysAt Heirloom Wooden Toys you can shop by age, by brand, and by price. You can even shop by category such as block play and doll play. They offer amazing flexibility so that you can find exactly what you need!  One of my favorite sections at Heirloom Wooden Toys is the Educational Toys section. It is divided into skills – Balancing, Building, Counting, Feeling, Thinking, and Writing. The design makes it simple to find a toy/activity to help your child develop certain skills. More retailers should offer sections like this and I love that Heirloom Wooden Toys has it!

Heirloom Wooden ToysWe received two toys, the Watch Me Count and a 34 piece Hardwood Unit Block Set, from Heirloom Wooden Toys to review. As soon as the toys were out of the box they were shipped in, I was amazed by the quality. I expected them to be good quality because they are wooden toys and they definitely met my expectations. Both products are a great change of pace from the brightly colored plastic toys that seem to be collecting around my house. The Watch Me Count and Block set are toys that will last long past W and on to the next child… perhaps to grandchildren a long way down the road.

The Watch Me Count is made by TAG Toys and Heirloom Wooden Toys offers a wide selection of other TAG Toys products. I like the Watch Me Count because as W grows it will help him begin to learn his numbers. The puzzle aspect of the toy is great for motor skill development and W thinks the pieces make great teething toys as well!

The Watch Me Count includes counting beads along the top and I can think of a number of activities W and I can do in the future such as matching the number of beads to the puzzle pieces. One other feature I appreciate is the fact that the puzzle includes the zero. I think it’s important to teach the concept of zero when teaching numbers because it can be tricky for some kids. So it’s great that this puzzle includes the zero! Plus it means that we have all of the numbers and can use the puzzle pieces outside of the frame to build many two-digit numbers.

Right now, W enjoys banging the pieces and chewing on them. I enjoy talking about the numbers and colors with him. In the future the Watch Me Count will be more appropriate and I look forward to using it more and more as he grows. I love that it is versatile and will have a long life in the toy box.

Heirloom Wooden Toys Hardwood Block SetThe 34-piece Hardwood Unit Block set is made by Guidecraft. I have been a huge Guidecraft fan for many years and the block set matches my perceptions of the company and the quality products they make. Heirloom Wooden Toys offer an amazing selection of Guidecraft toys. You may recognize some of them from your childhood classrooms, I know I do!

The blocks are made from an imported, economical hardwood called rubber wood, which is a replenishable wood source. This is a great feature of the blocks. These are very traditional blocks without any fancy colors or bells and whistles. They promote creative thinking and I know I spent hours playing with similar blocks as a child.

At nearly 8 months old, W enjoys playing with the blocks. He isn’t building anything quite yet but he likes to bang them together, feel the different shapes, and chew on them. Even the dogs like them and we have to protect the long cylinder shaped blocks because our boston terrier is after them! I cannot wait for the days when W and I can build castles and buildings with these blocks. One of the greatest things about these blocks is that you can buy additional sets at Heirloom Wooden Toys to grow your collection! There are block sets of every size available! W just might be getting more blocks when the holidays roll around! They make great gifts too because they are great for all young children and both boys and girls will enjoy them!

If you’re looking for toys that have educational and developmental benefits while being of a quality that will last a long time, Heirloom Wooden Toys probably has something for you!
