I’m an # iHeartOmron Fitness Challenge Ambassador!
When I saw my name on the list to be one of the 25 # iHeartOmron Fitness Challenge Ambassadors, I had to read it again. It wasn’t something I applied for on a whim. It was an opportunity I applied for because I felt like it was put in my path. My journey is not just beginning. This is not the first time I’ve needed to make some major changes in my lifestyle.
My Weight Loss Journey
About 11 years ago, I spent a day in the hospital with my mom as she had stents put into her heart. It was a day of reckoning for both of us. Although the younger years of my childhood were spent attending triathlons with my parents and being active members of our local cycling group, my teenage years were spent in obesity.
But, at 22 years old as I sat with my mom as she recovered, I knew something had to change. Or our lives were both going to be cut drastically short. So we spent 2 years changing our lives. We changed the way we ate and we got back to living the healthy lifestyle we led when I was younger.
My mom lost over 50 pounds and I lost about 85 pounds. It was a lifestyle I maintained for 6 years. Even through my pregnancy with W, I was active and making good choices.
I gained a healthy 32 pounds during my pregnancy and was at the gym regularly. I was actually at the gym the day before I gave birth to W. And once I was cleared by my midwife I was back out walking as soon as I got that okay. Six months later, I had lost 20 pounds even in the chaos of being a brand new parent. I only had 12 to go until I was back to my pre-baby weight.
Then disaster struck.
My younger sister unexpectedly passed away. It was abrupt and it was horrible. The day we found out now has the honor of being the worst day of my life. I never expected to attend the funeral of my little sister. At least not when she was in her early 20s. She had her whole life ahead of her.
In my grief, I turned to something that I was oh so familiar with. Emotional eating. It had gotten me into trouble as a teenager. But at the time I was just searching for something to fill that horrible gaping hole in my heart.
A year and a half later, I’ve gained back those 20 I had lost post-pregnancy plus about 10 more. But I have decided that it’s time to get it together. My sister wouldn’t want me going back to those old habits. Not when I have W to take care of. She adored him. She once told me that she didn’t like any babies, but she liked him.
So here is my new chance. It’s time to write a new chapter in this journey. It’s time to get back to that photo of me post weight loss. I know I can do it. With the support of my fellow #iHeartOmron ambassadors, Mamavation, and Omron Fitness, I know I can do this thing!
