Mom’s Favorite Sport: Fantasy Football
Confession time! Yes, again. Here it is — I am obsessed with fantasy football! No, not football. Fantasy football. I blame my dear husband (that’s him grinning up there). Back when we were dating, he asked if I wanted to join his league. That year it was free and I said sure. I knew nothing about football.
The guys let me play and I won! I won the entire season! I beat all of those silly guys! Now here we are five years later and I’m still playing. We play for money now and I’m still in. I still know nothing about football but I know how to research! I have placed in the top 3 for the past 4 years but have never won again.
Last year was amazing. It was J and I in the finals, so no matter what we took all the winnings. But I wanted to win so bad! I wanted the bragging rights!
Did it happen?
I came in second, but at least my husband used the money to take me out on a fabulous date! Except he has the “trophy” which actually looks more like a wrestling belt or something.
Fantasy Football Draft
The draft is one of my favorite parts of the entire season. We do it online but most of us get together to do it. We have hosted it at our house a few times and I planned to do the same thing this year. We’re a keeper league and my keeper is Drew Brees. I love starting the draft with an amazing quarterback. I also enjoy talking a little smack.
But I also provide goodies, so I think the guys let me get away with a little talk. I was feeling inspired by some things I’d seen on Pinterest so I headed out to Walmart. I was on the hunt for SNICKERS® Brand NFL Minis. Football team themed SNICKERS®? How perfect for a fantasy football draft party!
Well, three Walmart stores later and all I could find were my ordinary SNICKERS® Minis but I didn’t let that stop me! I grabbed a bag and the rest of my supplies and headed home to get baking for the boys! I wanted to butter them up with tasty snacks and sweet treats! I was hoping they would be distracted by their full bellies and I would get some great players!
Pinterest Inspired Snackadium
I turned to Pinterest for some inspiration for my party. I knew this could be dangerous but I also knew it had the potential to be brilliant! So I decided to try my hand at my very own Snackadium and it was a huge success! The only think I would change would be the amount of guacamole dip and the salsa. I would use more guacamole dip for a bigger field. And I would use a thicker salsa.
But this is an easy no-bake appetizer that is perfect for any football themed party or get together. It would be perfect any day of football season! It was huge hit! But we also needed something sweet to round out the goodies.
That is where my SNICKERS® Minis came into play!
SNICKERS® Minis Cupcakes
On Pinterest I had seen a number of SNICKERS® brownies. The ingredients were on my list but I changed my mind when I was at Walmart. J’s favorite cake is yellow cake with chocolate frosting. So I got it in my head that yellow cupcakes with a SNICKERS® Mini in the middle could be amazing.
I hadn’t seen anyone make them before. I hadn’t read a recipe. I was ready to just wing it! So here’s how it went!
What you need:
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 12 ounces of clear soda (this is my alternative to using oil and eggs)
- 18-24 SNICKERS® Minis (depending on how many cupcakes you make)
What you do:
- Preheat over according to directions on cake mix box.
- Empty the cake mix into a bowl. Add the soda. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Place cupcake liners in muffin pan. I didn’t use liners and some of my cupcakes stuck to my pan. So use liners!
- Fill each liner 3/4 full.
- Place on SNICKERS® Mini in the center of each cupcake.
- Bake according to directions on cake mix box.
- Cool before serving.
I grated a bit of frozen #SnickersMinis on top to give it a little something special. I didn’t add any frosting to these because the cake was already so moist. That is one of the perks of using the soda. It keeps the calories and fat down but also gives you an extremely moist cake!
What I loved about these cupcakes is that the cake covered the candy. If you did frost these, there would be a special surprise inside that no one would know about!
I would have loved to have the SNICKERS® Brand NFL Minis to go along with this party because they are perfect for the theme. I will definitely be picking some up to have during football season. But even without them, the cupcakes turned out to be fabulously delicious! The SNICKERS® Minis turned my normal yellow cupcakes into something special!
Dad Loves Fantasy Football Too
Of course, J loves football but I had a more pressing question on my mind during this party. What about the food? It was the first time I’d done multiple dishes inspired by Pinterest.
Thumbs up all around! The guys loved the food and ate almost everything while their eyes were glued to the television. What was on TV?
Football, of course!
That’s the way a real online draft goes! People can wander about a bit, eat some food, watch some football, and keep an eye on their computers. I prefer the flexibility of an online draft because of the resources it provides as well. I’m all about the research. I will miss my 2011 team that carried me to my second place finish but I know I will piece together a great team for 2012!
As soon as my roster is finalized I will update you! With great players and some great bagged candy, I know I’ll make it through! I’m aiming for a return to the top. Although I don’t know what I would do with my victory belt if I won. Maybe my husband would let me stash it on his bookcase where we keep it now.
Is your family a football family? How about a Fantasy Football family? What do you do to make your parties a little sweeter?
