Bedtime is always an interesting time for me as a parent because it seems to be constantly changing. One routine will work well for a while and then suddenly one night everything changes. It’s teaching me how important it is to go with the flow as a parent. I’m learning to be more patient for sure! But right now we seem to have a toddler bedtime routine that works for both kids and even gets me relaxed and ready to rest!
Our Toddler Bedtime Routine
Figuring out what works best for your family might be the biggest challenge. It was for us. But now that we have a basic toddler bedtime routine, most of what changes every so often is the timing of it all.
We kick off our bedtime routine with a final snack before bed. We try to keep that last snack lower in sugar and offer a small drink as well. My kids love cheese and crackers or a yogurt before bed. This limits the amount of requests they can make once we’re finally in bed!
After snack time we head to the bathroom to brush teeth and wash faces. My kids enjoy brushing their teeth but can sometimes get a bit rambunctious so we do this early in our night time routine!
After the kids have a final, small snack, it’s pajama time around our house! I pull out two pairs of pajamas and they can choose from those two. I like to give them a bit of a choice but nothing too crazy!
Pajama time is all about comfort here! And right now Carrigan is all about her new Gerber Blanket Sleeper because she is all about softness. She loves her blanket and the new version of the Gerber Blanket Sleeper is so much softer than previous versions! I recently had the chance to compare a sleeper from last year to the new ones and I was blown away!
Even though we live in Texas, once the weather starts to cool down, it starts to cool down! And that’s when I start thinking more about what the kids will wear at night when they sleep. Neither of them loves sleeping under blankets so the Gerber Blanket Sleepers are a great toddler bedtime routine solution! And safety is important to Gerber so the micro fleece blanket sleeper fabric is naturally flame resistant.
Good Night Time
Then it’s time to say goodnight to everyone. Grambo doesn’t head to bed with us so the kids say goodnight to her and the dog. Sometimes Carrigan says goodnight to a variety of toys and then it’s off to bed.
The last part of our bed time routine is one of my favorites and it’s story time. We read together in one bed with both kids. Each child chooses a book and it’s cuddle time. I also love when Carrigan is wearing her Gerber sleeper because it’s so fun to cuddle her! You can feel the Gerber softness which I think makes the difference between a good night of sleep and a great night!
After we read together, the kids go to their own beds and we turn on the essential oil diffusers. I’ll stay with one child and Justin with the other for a few minutes of one-on-one time together. Then it’s hugs and kisses. Carrigan goes to sleep fairly easily these days but Weston needs a bit more reassurance that we will be back to check on him after a few minutes.
Those are the basics and I love having the time with the kids as the day comes to an end. Peeking in on them and seeing them in their comfortable PJs with their loveys just makes me smile! Plus I love that we can get Gerber quality at a value price which works for any budget!
