We’ve been compensated for sharing about the Purina Family Pet Center but we’re thrilled to share this amazing project with you! Pets are an important part of family life and when a child falls ill, it’s a stressful time of life for everyone. Purina believes that pets and people are better together. So the goal of the Purina Family Pet Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital is to bring joy and comfort to families during their children’s stay at the hospital.
Purina Family Pet Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital
If you’re wondering what the Purina Family Pet Center is, you’re probably not alone. It’s the first center of its kind in the area and only the fourth in the world at a pediatric center. The center gives the patients a chance to spend time with their pets without leaving the hospital.
Did you know studies have actually shown that spending time with your pets can help you feel better? It can help reduce pain, anxiety, depression, and fatigue! I’m more than just a cute face! For families at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital, having the chance to spend time with their pets can make a huge difference!
I know that when my people aren’t feeling great I just want to be close to them. I just want them to feel better. And when they’re gone from home for long periods of time, I miss them. So I can’t imagine if Weston or Carrigan needed to stay in the hospital. I would miss those kids.
“At Purina we believe that pets and people are better together, and our friends at St. Louis Children’s Hospital clearly share our belief. Our goal for the Purina Family Pet Center is to bring joy and comfort to children and their families by helping them reunite with their pets during their stay.” -Nina Leigh Krueger, Purina president
The center features washable surfaces and windows so there’s natural light. The room can accomodate children in a wheelchair or in a hospital bed. So they can visit with their best pet friends. There are even toys and Purina treats!
Just imagine for a minute if your kids were sick and had to stay in the hospital for an extended length of time. This happened to us when Carrigan was very young and it was stressful on the whole family. I remember Weston just coming home from a long day staying with friends and family, and just curling up next to me on the couch. He’s my buddy and I know that together we makes each other’s live better.
The Purina Family Pet Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital will help make the daily lives of the patients and their families better, one sloppy dog kiss at a time!
