When we’re planning an afternoon out and about, sandwiches are our go to for an easy picnic lunch. But recently I took it to the next level and really surprised the family with something a little different!
Quick Steak and Cheese Sandwich Recipe
I have to admit that summer time is all about quick and easy meals for us. I’m always all about the easy but in the summer we always seem to be on the go so quick is important too! It’s one of the reasons I’ve been doing most of our grocery shopping this summer at Kroger! Plus I was able to get everything for our steak and cheese sandwich recipe in one trip!
One of our local Kroger stores is right across the street from the gym we’ve started going to! How convenient is that? So we can exercise and then do our grocery shopping!
This week our Kroger shopping trip worked out great for planning some easy lunches that we could take to a local park and enjoy as a family picnic. Exploring some our local splash pads and playgrounds is one of our favorite things to do. But I have to plan ahead and make sure we’ve got a good lunch to keep everyone powered up!
It’s a lot of work playing in the water and supervising kids playing! They need energy and we need energy too!
I’ll admit that I usually opt for peanut butter and jelly or some cold deli meat and cheese sandwiches. But this week I was feeling a bit more inspired, thanks to our favorite variety of Sargento® Sliced Cheese! We’re all huge fans of the Colby-Jack slices!
What You Need:
- 1 loaf Take & Bake bread (depending on sandwich size, you can make 2-3 sandwiches from one loaf)
- 1/2 pound steak strips
- 1 package Sargento® Sliced Cheese
The great thing about this easy sandwich recipe is that you can tweak it to work for any flavors you want! Sometimes we do egg and cheese for a late breakfast or we’ve even done steak, egg, and cheese! You could add lettuce, tomato, and bacon for a fun twist on a BLT. Or go for chicken or even tuna salad for a tuna melt! It’s such a quick and versatile recipe!
What You Do:
- Bake the bread according to the directions on the package.
- While the bread is baking, spray skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium-high heat. Cook steak strips until browned. Drain and set aside.
- Once bread is ready, let it sit for 5 minutes to cool slightly then cut into 2-3 pieces.
- Slice each piece in half. Place one slice of Sargento® Sliced Cheese on each side of the bread.
- Place back in cooling oven for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese.
- Add steak and put sandwich together!
If you’re staying at home, you can enjoy this steak and cheese sandwich warm with chips or your favorite side dish. It’s so versatile and is even great on its own. It’s hearty and filling!
Because the Sargento® Sliced Cheese is pre-sliced, it’s so convenient. You can use it more of a recipe like this one or use it to throw together some even quicker sandwiches and hit the park! You can plan ahead or easily add it to your quick lunch plans!
If you’re like us and headed out with your picnic lunch, let them cool a bit then wrap your sandwiches up and take them with you! We love that these sandwiches keep their crusty, hearty feel even when they’re cool.
After a busy day of playing together, lunch is always a hit. I have a feeling I’ll be using this recipe and Sargento® Sliced Cheese to whip up some great sandwiches this summer. I’ve already got plans for grilled cheese with tomato, tuna melts, and grilled chicken and cheese! They all sound so amazing and now I’m hungry again!
