This Rogue One Interview with Diego Luna is part of my sponsored #RogueOneEvent press trip. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rogue One Interview with Diego Luna
Yesterday, I shared our Rogue One interview with Felicity Jones. On the same day we interviewed her, we had the chance to interview Diego Luna as well! He was out first interview of the day and was delightful! I’ve been a fan since my sister introduced me to Diego Luna and it was something we shared so I still enjoy seeing him pop up in new projects!
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story follows a group of unlikely heroes in a time of conflict who band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
Diego Luna plays Captain Cassian Andor and it was great to learn more about his experience as part of the film! Captain Cassian Andor is a Rebel Intelligence offiver who is a by-the-book kind of guy. He’s seen his fair share of combat and is a very committed and practical man. He brings exprience as he tries to help figure out how to resist the Empire in the smartest way possible.
Diego Luna on Captain Cassian Andor
Diego Luna describes Captain Cassian Andor as an intelligence officer for the Rebellion who is pretty darn good at what he does. He has to make sure that his team works together. And even though he doesn’t like war, he believes in the cause. Cassian has no special powers but believes in a team working together.
I loved when he summed up his character by saying, “He’s a true hero — a hero like we could be.”
He also said that the film has a lovely message. It’s about people getting involved and shaping their reality. Diego Luna believes that the world needs this and an understanding that we need to put our differences aside. Star Wars connects people.
Fun fact! Diego spent two weeks in military training to prepare for the role! He also spent plenty of time in the gym. Director Gareth Edwards didn’t believe in pretending so there was plenty of running, jumping, and having to actually command Captain Andor’s team.
