Rogue One Interviews with Alan Tudyk & Mads Mikkelson
Last week, I shared Rogue One interviews with Felicity Jones and Diego Luna. Both were amazing to listen to and getting to chat with them about their experience in Rogue One has me even more excited to see the movie on Friday!
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story follows a group of unlikely heroes in a time of conflict who band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
We also had the opportunity to interview the man behind the role of Galen Orso, Mads Mikkelson. You might recognize Mads Mikkelson from a little television series called Hannibal. But if you don’t, be sure to check him out in Rogue One! Galen Erso is the estranged father of Jyn and has doomsday knowledge that both the Empire and the Rebellion would like to get their hands on!
He teamed up with Alan Tudyk for a fun interview! Even if you don’t recognize Alan Tudyk, you probably know his voice. He has voiced characters in Moana, Zootopia, Big Hero 6, and Wreck It Ralph! But if you do recognize him it might be from television shows like Suburgatory and Firefly!
In Rogue One, he plays K-2SO so that should be a blast to see! K-2SO is a security droid that is confident and tough. He’s not very concerned about relations between humans and cyborgs. He says what he thinks but he’s also out looking for some redemption for wrongs in his past.
One of the interesting things the actors talked about was the fact that the set was fun and very open to collaboration. Alan Tudyk got to ad lib a lot of his role.
They also said the cast was like a family. Mads Mikkelson didn’t get to spend as much time with a lot of the cast but he did grow close to Ben Mendelsohn who plays Director Orson Krinnec. Alan said that “Mads was like the big brother who’s away at college that you don’t get to see enough.”
Wondering who their favorite Star Wars characters are? Mads said Han Solo because he was for himself. Alan said it changed from day to day but on the day of our interview he was feeling Obi Wan Kenobi because he had the magic.
Fun fact! When Rogue One director Gareth Edwards called to talk to Alan Tudyk, he thought he was just calling to talk to him about his experience with motion capture, not about being an droid in a Star Wars movie! (To learn more about motion capture, check out my post about our Lucasfilm tour!)
