San Antonio Zoo
Last month we had the opportunity to take a local vacation to San Antonio. We stayed at the gorgeous Crockett Hotel across the street from the Alamo. It was a great location and our suite worked extremely well for us. We stayed in the city for a few days and we spent one of those days at the San Antonio Zoo.
I’ve learned that the zoo is a great option for affordable family fun. Parking is free and you can pack a picnic lunch to enjoy outside the zoo to save money on food! We have had great experiences at the Houston Zoo so I was excited to check out the San Antonio Zoo!
Spend a Day at the Zoo
One thing I love about the zoo is that it is easy to spend the entire day for the price of your ticket! The San Antonio Zoo is open 365 days a year and offers so many exciting features and exhibits that it might take a few days to really experience it.
It was our first trip to the zoo with a toddler and I loved seeing all of the animals (and benches and trash cans) through his eyes! Some of our favorite animals and attractions included the monkeys. W loved the monkeys and couldn’t get enough of them! Elephants were another favorite of his while J enjoyed the reptile house.
The San Antonio Zoo has a number of unique attractions including:
- Zoo Train that was built in 1956 and travels through Brackenridge Park outside of the zoo.
- Butterflies fly at the Caterpillar Flight School!
- Lory Landing offers the chance to feed the brightly colored, nectar-drinking lorikeets!
Must Visit San Antonio Destination
The San Antonio Zoo was an amazing experience for us. We will definitely be doing it again when W is a bit older. He loved running around the zoo but it meant that the adults get as much time to really enjoy the animals. It was still amazing to see him notice the animals for the first time!
Tickets are $12 for adults and $9.50 for children. If you bring your own lunch and picnic outside it can make for a very affordable family day! The zoo is large enough to spend more than a few hours so make sure you wear your walking shoes!
