See How StemBox Brings Science to Life for Girls is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Green Works but as a former teachers, it’s a project that I support completely. Check out how cool StemBox is and see how we learned to make a battery out of a lemon in this month’s box!
StemBox Brings Science to Life for Girls
Early on in my education, I was placed in advanced math and science classes starting when I was in the third grade. Beyond those classes, there wasn’t a lot of opportunity to for me to explore those interests. When I stepped into the classroom as a teacher, I saw a lot of myself in some of my young students and I did my best to help those girls have the chance to explore their interests.
Recently we had the chance to check out the StemBox, a monthly subscription box for young girls that brings hands-on science experiments and concepts right to your door! STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. With only 1 in every 1,000 girls pursuing STEM careers, it’s all about supporting them and encouraging them.
Lemon Battery StemBox
Here’s what came in our Green Works StemBox this month:
- LED Bulb
- Alligator Clips
- Zinc Nails
- Copper Wire
- Instructions Page
- Green Works Wipes
- Mini Clock
- STEM Sticker
The only thing we had to get for our experiment were four lemons! Lucky for us, we have a lemon tree in our backyard!
The box comes with great directions that include images which makes it great for younger girls. It’s easy to go step by step and have some science fun!
Plus, I loved using the lemons from our own tree. They smelled absolutely amazing! We even had to make some of our own homemade lemonade once we lit up the light!
And before we knew it, we were using a lemon to light up a light bulb! The magic of science! And it was an almost magical moment. Even I was in awe!
Stem Boxes are designed for girls aged 7 to 13 and a month to month subscription is $36. If you pre-pay, you can save on each box with a 3 month subscription for $88 ($29.33 per month) or 6 months for $170 ($28.33 per month)! You can also give StemBox as a gift!
I love that Green Works is supporting StemBox as the first sponsor because it’s a brand we use around our house quite often (even after our science experiment)!
Plus, a female scientist is the one that led the team that created the Green Works laundry and household cleaners line. And for each March Green Works StemBox subscription, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to The American Association of University Women!
