Starting the Day Off Right
I am a breakfast person. If I don’t get something to eat within half an hour of waking up, then it usually ends up being a rough morning for me. My sister was the complete opposite and W is very much like his aunt. He likes a cup of milk in the morning but doesn’t want to eat much until later on. I have no idea how he does it!
Breakfast is the key to starting my day off on a good foot for me and it has always been that way. I don’t see it changing any time soon! And I plan to keep encouraging my children to get their days started with a good breakfast.
When I was teaching, my school offered a breakfast program before the school day got started. So many families took advantage of the program. Even though it was so early in the morning, making breakfast available to the kids seemed to be something that parents really appreciated.
Now that I’m working on getting back on track post-baby, I find that my breakfast choices are even more important when it comes to the success of my day. Chasing after a toddler while caring for a newborn is exhausting and I have to get the day off to a good start so I have the energy to carry me through the entire thing!
In a perfect world my three-year old and almost three-month old would take nice long naps at the same time. But this is not a perfect world. This is life with kids and this mama needs plenty of energy to keep up with both of them. While it’s demanding, it’s a job I wouldn’t trade for the world!
Another reason that breakfast is so important to me is because it is a great meal to make into a special family time, especially on the weekends. I love sitting down with everyone and enjoying our favorite Kellogg’s cereals as we connect and plan our days together. Plus, W can help make breakfast and get involved in the kitchen. It’s one of his favorite things to do although I still pour the milk! Spilled cereal is much easier to clean up than spilled milk. (And yes, the dogs like to help when it comes to the spilled cereal!)
So I like to make sure I start the day off right with breakfast because it fuels me physically and emotionally as a busy mom!
