Summer Survival Tips for Moms is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hot Shot® Insecticides.
Summer is upon us and while I’m busy keeping the kids entertained, there are also some things I have to do to make sure mom survives summer! It’s so easy to focus on the kids this time of year but I’ve been working on thinking of myself more often. So here are some of my Summer Survival Tips for Mom!
Summer Survival Tips for Moms
So how do I survive summer as a mom?
Take a deep breath.
While we are still very busy in the summer, it doesn’t seem as busy since W doesn’t go to camp as often as he went to his preschool program. This means more time together and more time for mommy to keep the kids busy. Sometimes this feels like a lot of work.
So one of the things I find myself needing to do is just take a deep breath and trying to be patient. When things get crazy, I have to just stop for a moment and make sure I’m not letting it all get to me!
Keep the routine.
Even though the kids aren’t in school we had developed a routine when W was in his pre-preschool program earlier this year. He’s now in summer camp two mornings a week so it’s helped me stay in a routine.
Sticking to our routine is vital for me. Although we do spend more time just playing and relaxing, having a flow to our day just seems to make everything go a bit smoother.
Keep it clean.
This goes along with sticking to a daily routine as much as possible. I try to make sure that I stay on top of the little chores around the house. It’s easy to let the toys lay around since W seems to get them out again as soon as I pick them up.
But I feel better when the house doesn’t look like a total mess so I try to keep up with picking up toys, rinsing dishes, and pushing the laundry through.
Although I don’t plan things to do every single day, I do try to plan at least one adventure or activity for us to do each week. Planning something new to do or making plans to visit places we enjoy gives all of us something to look forward to. Sometimes we head out to do something but sometimes we just do something special at home like wash the car!
But I make sure I don’t overschedule because it’s easy for me to feel stressed out if we get too many things on the calendar. Having down time is definitely important too!
Getting outside is also one of my keys to surviving summer. W loves to go play in the backyard. He doesn’t even bat an eye at the heat. C also enjoys sitting in the shade and playing on a blanket. It’s an easy thing for us to do that doesn’t take a bunch of planning.
When we head outdoors I have to make sure I’m prepared. Plenty of water, bug repellent, and sunscreen are necessities that I always have on hand. But I recently had to stock up on Hot Shot® Insecticides because we have a lot of wasps and ants this summer. Without J home to protect me from the creepy crawlers, I’ve had to arm myself!
Hot Shot® Insecticides are family friendly and help me keep our home (and back deck) free of pests! While I want my kids to feel at home in our house, I don’t want bugs making themselves at home!
