The Animation of Inside Out Movie
When you’re sitting in the theater enjoying the magic of the Inside Out movie this summer, know that a lot of work went into creating the amazing world of the mind for all of us to enjoy!
Bringing the characters to life through animation generally takes at least a year and it’s a daily process. Through daily animation meetings called dailies, the directors and animators work together to bring us the most amazing film they can!
Let me tell you a little bit more about how they do it!
Each day the animators and directors meet to go over the work they have in progress. Everyone gives their input and then the director makes final decisions. Everyone is waiting to hear the words, “Let’s final it!” because it means a shot is good and has been approved! Another step towards completed movie magic!
And one thing you don’t want to hear during these meetings is silence. The animators want their work to get a reaction. So for about an hour each day they meet. Sometimes there are two people with work to share and sometimes there are 50! The team works through about 20 shots per session.
The goal is for each animator to complete about three seconds of animation a week. And the notes and changes that come from the group collaboration are often very subtle and they can make a huge difference in the finished product!
You might not notice that Joy’s eyebrow arches just a bit higher than it once did, but she’ll have you smiling by the end of Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out movie!
Inside Out hit theaters on June 19th and I can’t even tell you how amazing it is! Be sure to put it on the calendar for your family! You can also learn more about the movie by connecting with Inside Out on Facebook and following Disney/Pixar on Twitter @DisneyPixar!
