This summer has been a busy one for us, especially W and I! We have been on the move! We’re having some great adventures and I am getting a good education in traveling with toddlers! It’s an adventure all on its own. But I love knowing I’m sharing the world with my little man. I also love seeing the world through his eyes.
Traveling with Toddlers Tips
From a 13 hour road trip to flights with a connection in a busy airport, this busy mom is definitely learning a lot about bringing a two-year old along for the ride! So what have I learned?
- Save room for the toys! I bought some new toys for each of our trips because I know how quickly W moves from one activity to the next when we’re at home. I looked for new books and toys with a small number of pieces. I found a pad of reusable stickers and a travel MagnaDoodle that were both huge hits. We also brought along the iPad as well.
- Allow extra time. Don’t be so tied to your schedule that you don’t have wiggle room. On our most recent trip we had plans to visit relatives before dinner. But when W went down for a late nap, we had to switch our plans and wait to visit until after dinner. It worked out well!
- Bring plenty of snacks! I had this covered for sure. Snacks for the plane trip we took was a bit more challenging when it came to trying to stay healthy, but we were well stocked for our road trip. It actually saved us money (over stopping at gas stations or drive thrus) and helped distract W from time to time!
- Lots of comfy clothes! I was worried I was over packing when it came to W’s clothes. But I don’t think there is a way I really could have packed too much. I brought home a few clean clothes but it was better to know that I was prepared.
Gymboree was a lifesaver when it came to outfitting W for summer. He prefers a more casual vibe and likes to make choices when it comes to his clothing. So being able to stock up on basics was a great way for mom to get the clean look I like while he was still comfortable.
His new shorts and tank were perfect for a warm summer day spent exploring Callaway Gardens in Georgia! He was a huge fan of the baseball and I loved the orange color! Plus, I love how easy it was to wash his clothes after a busy day getting into all things messy!
Most importantly, I’ve learned when traveling with my little man to take a deep breath and enjoy exploring through W’s eyes. Be ready to run and explore. And be ready to be wowed no matter where you’re traveling. It has been exhausting this summer (of course, I’m also pregnant) but it has also been so amazing.
I cannot wait to take him on more adventures.
Gymboree has an amazing selection of great quality kids clothing for any occasion. I love that the clothes are durable and wash well. You can find great outfits like W wore on vacation on Gymboree’s website or in stores nationwide.
What is your tip for traveling with toddlers?
