If hadn’t figured it out, we’re huge Disney fans around our house. And Walt Disney Movies are always some of our favorites! They just always seem to have an amazing variety for the entire family. We can hit the theaters together a few times and then do a girls night or a date night out too!
I got a sneak peak of some of what was coming this year when I was at the D23 Expo last year, but check out the Walt Disney Movies that are coming our way in 2016!
2016 Walt Disney Movies Lineup
Whether you’re looking for a great movie to see with the kids or something fun for date night, Walt Disney Movies has busy families covered this year! Check it out!
The Finest Hours – January 29th
The Finest Hours is based on a true story and looks like its full of suspense and action. It looks like it will be a great movie for mom and dad to see together! Justin wants to check it out and I can’t even pretend that I’m not willing to go watch Chris Pine on the big screen!
Zootopia – March 4th
We already have plans to see Zootopia on opening weekend! Weston is excited and since Carrigan loves animals right now, I think this one will be a huge hit with our family! And who doesn’t love a good afternoon at the movies with the family?
The Jungle Book – April 16th
Justin just saw the trailer for the new live action version of The Jungle Book! I comes out right before his birthday and he’s thrilled! The original animated The Jungle Book is one of his favorite Disney classics. I saw a sneak peek of this one at D23 and was blown away by how gorgeous it is! We can’t wait!
Captain America: Civil War – May 6th
This is one that Justin is working on convincing me a is a great date night movie. Now I’m all for some action and just might be a fan of Captain America, but date night? Not sure about the romance but I’m sure this one will be one of the most entertaining movies of the year!
Alice Through the Looking Glass – May 27th
Justin and I were at the movies last week and saw the trailer for this one. Blown away by how amazing it looks! Tim Burton is pretty amazing so I expect great things from this movie. I think it will definitely end up as either a date night movie for us or maybe Grambo will check it out with me! She does love her some Johnny Depp!
Finding Dory – June 17th
The countdown is on! I’m probably more excited about this one than I really need to be but that’s just the kid in me shining through! Finding Nemo is one of MY all time Disney faves. And right now Carrigan is absolutely in love with it. So I’m thrilled to be able to take her to see Finding Dory in theaters this summer! Mommy daughter date, perhaps?
The BFG – July 1st
I remember The BFG vividly because of the amazing read aloud skills of my 4th grade teacher. As a former teacher, I’m a huge fan of Roald Dahl. And Weston is just getting into us reading him chapter books before bed each night. We just got a copy of the book so I’m looking forward to sharing it with him before the movie hits theaters!
Pete’s Dragon – August 12th
Pete’s Dragon is one of my childhood favorites! Now I’m going to have “Candle on the Water” stuck in my head! I can’t wait to see this new version! It’s inspired me to track down the original to show my kids!
Queen of Katwe – Fall 2016
Lupita Nyong’o stars in Queen of Katwe this fall. Set in rural Uganda, Queen of Katwe is based on the true story of a girl who dreams of becoming a champion chess player.
Doctor Strange – November 4th
Are you ready to enter Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum? Be sure to check out Doctor Strange when it hits theaters. Another new Marvel installment for us to enjoy!
Moana – November 23rd
Bring your tissues with you when you head out to see Moana. It’s going to be one of those Disney animated classics that just gets you right in the heart. I saw a short clip when I was at D23 and I teared up. It’s gonna be good. SO GOOD.
Rogue One – December 16th
A new Star Wars story? Do I need to say anymore? Rogue One is sure to be a hit this December!
The Light Between Oceans – 2016
While we don’t have a release date yet, The Light Between Oceans will be in theaters this year too! It’s based on the novel of the same name and looks like it’s going to be one I’ll definitely have to see. I love seeing how books are adapted to film. Yes, I’m a bit of a geek sometimes. But I think we all have things we geek out about, right?
So there it is. The amazing Walt Disney movies coming our way this year! I can’t wait to share more about them as the year goes on!
