Although I’ve been to Disney World quite a few times (and love it!), before my recent trip to the D23 Expo in California, I had never been to Disneyland before! So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to enjoy a whirlwind visit during the Disneyland Diamond Celebration! Although I was only there for about 12 hours total, I was able to fall in love with so many aspects of the celebration!
What I Loved About Disneyland Diamond Celebration
Disneyland turned 60 on July 17, 2015 which means the Disneyland Diamond Celebration is in full swing! The park is decked out in special celebratory decor including tons of royal blue and diamonds. It’s absolutely gorgeous and a site to be seen both during the day and at night!
Sleeping Beauty Castle
One of the most gorgeous sites to be seen is Sleeping Beauty Castle at night. I had been warned before making my way to Disneyland that the castle is smaller in comparison to Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom. So I expected that, but what I didn’t expect is how different it is. I loved the castle and thought it was gorgeous during the day.
But when it lit up at night and the blue glass crystals shimmered on the rooftops, my heart melted. It was truly magical.
Paint the Night Electrical Parade
I haven’t seen a night time parade at Disney in quite a while. On our most recent trip to Disney World, the kids were worn out before the parades even started after dark. So I had to do mom duty and relax at the hotel. But I had the chance to enjoy the Paint the Night Electrical Parade while we were visiting Disneyland and WOW!
The parade features over 1.5 million LED lights that are controlled individually. So much sparkle and shone! I adored all of the music and had fun seeing so many of my favorite Disney characters featured! Beauty and the Beast, Cars, Frozen, and even some Monsters, Inc. love! All in lights!
Disneyland Forever Fireworks
The last time I saw Disney fireworks was from my hotel balcony at Disney World, so being able to stand beneath the Disneyland Forever Fireworks show was absolutely stunning. I loved the use of projection mapping on the buildings and landmarks around the park as well as the amazing music.
Music is so powerful, especially when it comes to all things Disney! One of my favorite parts was when Tinkerbell flew from the castle to the Matterhorn at the beginning of the show! Definitely a magical moment!
World of Color
So I’d read all about World of Color at Disney California Adventure and I knew it was an outdoor, 22-minute nighttime spectacular. But I didn’t really understand what that would mean. I didn’t realize just how mesmerized I would be. I’m so thankful to have had the chance to experience the World of Color: Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney as part of the Disneyland Diamond Celebration.
It was an incredible journey through the imagination of Walt Disney, from the very beginning to today! With the soaring fountains, fire effects, lasers, lights, and music, it was an expeirence I don’t think I’ll ever forget! If you have the chance to see it before the celebration is over, DO IT!
Disneyland Diamond Celebration Pins
We started collecting Disney pins on our first visit to the Magic Kingdom with the kids back in May 2014. Even though we’re relatively new to collecting, it’s become one of my favorite things about visiting Disney. There are over 100 pin designs being released during the Disneyland Diamond Celebration and I was thrilled to be able to add a few to our collection.
We buy pins for the memories so we always get a pin for the park during our first visit to it. Although the family wasn’t with me, I couldn’t pass up the chance to get a pin for everyone to celebrate the celebration of 60 years! I will be able to share the story of my visit with the kids when they are older. And Grambo loved her pin too! Oh, and I didn’t forget Justin! He just doesn’t collect pins.
I also bought a pin for my visit to Disney California Adventure, each of the rides I rode, and World of Color. Oh and holiday Olaf because… well, it’s holiday Olaf!
Whether you’ve been to Disneyland hundreds of time or you’re planning your first trip, I definitely recommend trying to visit during the Disneyland Diamond Celebration because it’s a magical time to experience the Disney magic. I’m ready to plan a trip for the entire family! I don’t think they would complain at all!
