I was thrilled to have the chance to experience some of the best animal kingdom attractions as part of my visit to Walt Disney World for the #ZootopiaEvent press trip. Most of my expenses were paid on this trip, but we’re huge Disney World fans and had already taken the family earlier in the year! So after spending time there with the family and on my own, I’ve got what I think are five of the best Animal Kingdom attractions for the family!
5 Best Animal Kingdom Attractions for the Family
There are so many amazing things to do at the park, but when you’re there with the family you might need to put together a short list of the best Animal Kingdom attractions to make sure you get the experience you’re looking for.
Kilimanjaro Safaris is definitely a highlight of the best Animal Kingdom attractions because it’s so unique and it appeals to all ages.
If you haven’t taken a safari when you’ve visited Animal Kingdom, be sure to do it. What’s great about it, is that you can do every time you visit and you’ll have a different experience! It all depends on your tour guide (safari driver) and the animals that are out on the savanna!
And starting this spring, you’ll be able to explore Kilimanjaro safaris at night! As the sun sets, you’ll be able to take your safari adventures into the evening!
Rafiki’s Planet Watch
If you’ve never taken the Wildlife Express train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you’ve got to do it! Conservation Station is great for the kids and the adults!
A lot of people don’t seem to understand just how cool it is. The train ride itself is awesome and you get a bit of a behind the scenes look at the park. Then you can explore the amazing world of animals with some of these amazing activities:
- Song of the Rainforest – a program narrated by Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas, you can sit in a dimly lit area and listen to a variety of sounds from the rainforest, It’s an interesting and cool place to chill out.
- Veterinary Viewing Windows – you may have the chance to see animals getting examined or having procedures done. There is a cast member there to explain the action.
- Affection Section – you can interact with animals here! It’s a typical petting zoo situation with sheep, goats, and other animals. But Carrigan loved being able to brush the goal while Weston investigated the poop. Yep, that’s what happened.
- Meet Characters – you can meet Rafiki and Chip & Dale.
You can also get a peek into the making of Disney’s Zootopia! The movie opened in theaters on March 4th so be sure to check it out! And if you’re visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom soon, check out all the great behind the scenes info at Rafiki’s Planet Watch!
We only discovered the Dinoland Boneyard play area on our visit last fall. It’s quickly become one of Weston’s favorite things about the Animal Kingdom theme park. It’s an amazing play area full of slide after slide after slide.
And if you cross the big bridge (which is fun to do if you’re an adult too), you’ll find a giant dinosaur dig sandbox!
Festival of the Lion King
I’m a huge fan of live theater, so the Festival of the Lion King is always near the top of my list when we visit Animal Kingdom. It’s about half an hour long and I feel like it’s one of the best shows at Disney World.
The kids have both seen it multiple times and only start to get a bit antsy right at the very end. Luckily the big finale always seems to grab their attention again which makes it work for the whole family!
Rivers of Light
Rivers of Light is an innovative new show coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom on April 22nd. It will use a waterway as the stage and feature entertainers, floating lanterns, water screens, and swirling imagery. I’m so excited to see the Animal Kingdom come to life at night! Sounds like it will be an amazing family friendly experience!
So when you visit Walt Disney World, be sure to check out the best Animal Kingdom attractions as well as other favorites like Expedition Everest (Weston’s favorite) and Dinosaur (Justin’s favorite). Oh and don’t forget to try ALL the food. Yes, I said all. That’s one of my favorite things to do when I go visit!
And if you’re a fan of animals, remember that Disney’s Zootopia is theaters now!
