Date night is important. I’ve come to realize that keeping up with my relationship as a wife is just as important as my job as a mom. But it can be challenging. I won’t even try to pretend that it’s not. So we depend a lot on our parent and on easy at home date night ideas.
Easy At Home Date Night Ideas
We love going out to eat and hitting the movies but sometimes it just isn’t in the cards. But that doesn’t mean we can’t spend some time together after the kids go to sleep.
Dinner
If we can wait late enough… well, if I can wait late enough, putting together a meal at home for us to enjoy without the kids can be a great break from the norm! It’s also fun to make Justin join me in the kitchen and cook together! Oh, and don’t forget fondue! It’s one of the best meals to share together and is pretty easy to put together!
Justin loves to mix drinks for us, so it’s fun to let him experiment every so often!
Game Night
Whether it’s charades or cards, Justin and I enjoy playing games. Don’t feel limited by only having two players. There are plenty of games. We even enjoy playing video games together sometimes! Oh, or Twister! Twister is fun, right?
Walk Memory Lane
Spend the evening looking through old photos especially ones from before you were married and those treasure wedding photo albums. Watch your wedding video if you have one! Reminisce about the memories you share together before you became mom and dad. They will help you remember just why you chose the person you’re spending date night with to create a family!
Turn It Off
A great way to reconnect is to make a vow to disconnect for the evening. Turn off all phones and tablets. You might have to leave the baby monitor on, but we’ll allow that exception! The point is to turn off the things that might distract you from your time together. Then you can focus on the meal or the movie you’re planning to watch together.
Turn It On
The TV that is! You don’t have to go to the theater to catch a great movie. Check out what’s available on demand or grab a DVD of one of your favorite movies or a new release. If you’re like us, spending time together catching up on favorite TV shows is something we love to do!
Or if you dare, watch Sex Box with your significant other while enjoying your fondue and drinks!
It’s WE tv’s new couples therapy show on Fridays at 10/9c. Showcasing real couples with real initimacy issues, it’s definitely a new take on a familiar type of television show. Based on the scientifically proven concept that oxytocin and endorphins flood the body in the first 15 minutes after intimacy, couples are enabled to open up and be really honest about their problems.
The couples spend time together in a specially designed chamber that is private, camera free, and sound proof. This allows them to focus solely on each other and their needs before coming out to speak with the experts.
The show features Dr. Chris Donaghue, Sexologist and Clinical Psychotherapist; Dr. Fran Walfish, Relationship Psychotherapist and Dr. Yvonne Capehart, Pastor and Couples Counselor. These experts offer the couples frank advice in an effort to help them change their lives and their relationships.
