When W was just shy of 10 months old, we went with Grambo and my aunt to Galveston so he could have his first beach experience and we could celebrate my aunt’s birthday. He took to the beach with ease wanting to crawl straight out into the waves. Last week we headed down to Galveston with Grambo and my aunt again for another year of celebration. It was C’s first beach trip and since she’s just shy of 11 months old I wanted to see how she handled it!
Baby’s First Beach Trip to Galveston
I had nothing to worry about it! She took to it the same as her brother — loving every minute! It was a gorgeous day in Galveston. The temperature was in the mid 70s in the morning. It was a bit breezy but really just perfect for hanging out on the beach.
We arrived at Stewart Beach in Galveston right when it opened. We knew there wouldn’t be many people there since school has started and since we were early there were just two or three others around. We chose Stewart Beach because many of the stretches of beach in Galveston have been dealing with a lot of seaweed this year. We figured a public beach would be cleaner than others.
Normally we just park along the sea wall and find a spot we like on the beach. But Stewart Beach was a great option for us this time since we had the kids. It only cost us $8 to park and since we weren’t renting umbrellas or chairs, it was definitely an affordable place to go with the whole crew.
Sand in Her Toes
She loved playing in the sand. It started with her sitting on a towel digging her toes into the sand but that quickly turned into flat on her belly pulling herself along the beach. She was intrigued by the wet sand and couldn’t get enough of it. I loved watching her discover something brand new for the first time. It’s amazing to live things I’ve experienced through the eyes of my children.
She might have tried to eat just a bit of sand. Just like her brother did on his first visit! But then we faced a new challenge. No fear of the water here! She wanted to crawl right into the waves rolling in on the beach. C loves water and apparently that goes for baths, swimming pools, and the crashing waves.
It was a gorgeous morning full of magic for my little girl.
And her brother.
Crashing Through the Waves
W loved the water. He sat and dug some holes in the sand with me but it was the water that called to him that morning. He wanted is life jacket on and he wanted to run and splash. We ran together down the beach looking for shells. And he waded in a bit deeper than really made me comfortable, laughing when I waded in after him.
I’m pretty sure that he could have stayed at the beach all day if I’d let him. And I would have stayed all day too if we could.
The joy on everyone’s faces was amazing. It was something I think everyone needs every so often!
After the beach we enjoyed lunch together before walking the Galveston Strand for a little bit together. Then we headed back home, exhausted with sand everywhere.
I’m pretty sure I’m still finding sand from last week.
But it just makes me smile and remember those precious moments where nothing mattered to any of us except the sun, sand, and waves.
Have you been to the beach with your family?
