Common Cold Prevention Methods
It seems to happen every year around our house. Someone brings home a cold or the flu and then we all take a turn surviving it.
Each year I work on upping my game and coming up with the best cold prevention that I can to keep my family feeling well.
I have an arsenal of common cold prevention methods that have worked well over the past few years. So each year as cold and flu season settles in, I make sure that our home is prepared!
It’s all about being prepared and then being ready to comfort!
Common Cold Prevention Methods for Your Family and Home
We like to keep things simple and easy around here, so I don’t go crazy when it comes to these cold season tips.
It’s more about consistency then going crazy. As parents, we can focus on the best cold prevention and just do our best.
Then just be ready to take care of each other if a cold or the flu hits!
Stick to routine.
This is one our biggest challenges during the busy holiday season but it’s one of the best common cold prevention methods I’ve found.
If you can do your best to stick to a routine that keeps your family eating well, getting enough sleep, and staying active, you might find that cold and flu season stays away from your home.
It doesn’t always work for us but when any of us are rundown and not at our best, I find that those cold germs seem to sneak in and get us down.
Keep it clean.
During cold and flu season, one thing I focus on is making sure everyone is washing their hands. I’m pretty sure they feel like I’m reminding them all the team. It’s the former teacher in me, I think.
I also wipe down doorknobs, handles, railings, and countertops often to keep the germs at bay.
Take care of the air too.
Winter air can be brutally dry which can make me feel not so great even when I don’t have a cold at all.
Carrigan is very susceptible to coughs and colds, so I’ve learned to use a humidifier, especially during the colder months.
I recently learned that the survival of cold and flu germs in the air and on the surfaces of our home can depend on the levels of humidity in our house. It’s just another reason that I break out the humidifier during this time of year.
Vicks is the most trusted brand for cough and cold relief. It’s a brand that’s been in our home for as long as I can remember.
The newest addition to our home is the Vicks Germ Free Cool Moisture Humidifier.
I have to admit that I usually buy a new humidifier each year because I’ve always been concerned about things like bacteria in the water if I tried to put my old humidifiers away for storage.
With the Vicks Germ Free Cool Moisture Humidifier, I can feel confident that our humidifier is putting out air that is virtually free of germs because of it’s patented germ-killing technology.
It kills up to 99.9% of viruses, fungus, bacteria, and mold that might be in the water of the unit!
That makes me feel good about the mist that helps us all breathe better all year long, not just during cold and flu season!
Stock up so you’re prepared.
Sometimes even the best cold prevention might not keep all of those germs at bay, so I do my best to make sure that we have everything we need to help us survive having a cold.
I do a check of our medicine cabinet to make sure I have all the basics:
- Saline facial wipes
- Pain reliever
- Cough Syrup
- Nasal Spray
- Throat drops
These days I also stock up on Vicks menthol and Sleepytime VapoPads because they can be used in the Vicks Germ Free Cool Moisture Humidifier.
They provide soothing Menthol or Sleepytime Rosemary and Lavender scented vapors for up to eight hours of comfort. They’re perfect for bedtime when someone might not feel quite up to par.
If you’re looking to stock up on the best cold prevention, from now through January 2018, the Vicks Germ Free Cool Moisture Humidifier is on Rollback at Walmart for $49.86! Its Walmart everyday low price is $59.99, so now is a great time to get your home prepared for cold and flu season!
Tackling cold and flu season doesn’t have to be challenging!
Just do a few simple things and they’ll add up to keeping your family well this year!
In case these common cold prevention methods don’t keep illness at bay, just be prepared to help comfort them through it. We’ll all make it through another cold and flu season together!
