The holidays are right around the corner and we’re in the thick of entertaining season for most of us! It might seem like a lot of work to keep your house clean but with some easy holiday house cleaning tips and some prioritizing, you can make it easy!
Holiday House Cleaning Tips
If you’re like me, you love the fun parts of the holiday season! Decorating our home is one of my favorite things to do.
But with people stopping in while in town or parties you might be hosting, cleaning is also something that ends up having to be a priority too. Holiday house cleaning doesn’t have to be an overwhelming chore though.
It’s just a matter of looking at through the eyes of your guests and making certain holiday house cleaning tasks the priority!
Holiday House Cleaning in High Traffic Areas
When you’re cleaning for the holidays, don’t feel like every inch of the house has to be spotless.
Walk through your house as if you were a visitor. Pay attention the areas that will be used and get high traffic during any entertaining you have planned.
Some of these areas might include:
- Kitchen/Dining Room
- Living room
Make those areas your priority and holiday house cleaning won’t seem like such a huge task!
The two biggest areas on this list for me are the bathrooms and the kitchen.
Holiday House Cleaning Tips for Each Room
After you’ve prioritized which rooms you should clean in your home, I’ve got a few tips for each area!
The entryway is the first impression.
Remember that the first thing your guests will see is your entryway.
So sweep off the porch, shake out your doormat, and wipe down the doors and any furniture you might have sitting out. None of these chores take long to do but they’ll make a big impact!
The dining room and kitchen will be busy.
The dining room and kitchen areas will be busy areas because people always hang out where the food can be found.
Just make a plan, break those areas up across a few days and you’ll have it conquered in no time. The thing that works best for me once I’ve done the initial cleaning is to stay on top of the dishes and countertop clutter.
By keeping those areas clean, it’s easy to be ready for any guests who might pop in!
You can also grind up a chopped up lemon in the disposal to add some freshness to your kitchen!
The bathroom deserves a deep cleaning.
It may not be the advice you want to hear, but the bathroom that gets the highest traffic when you have guests over needs a deep cleaning.
I feel like bathrooms can make the strongest impressions.
Doing one deep cleaning and then wiping all the surfaces down a few times a week is a great way to keep it manageable.
Living is done in the living room.
For our family, holiday house cleaning in the living room is more about keeping things tidy and organized.
We keep the toys picked up at the end of the day and I put the pillows back on the couches.
Then I tackle the floors.
Keeping the floors clean can be easy!
When you’re doing your holiday house cleaning, save the floors for last.
Cleaning other areas can leave dust and dirt on the floor so it’s better to save the job for last!
