Each year when Fall rolls in, I find myself wanting to declutter even more than I do in the Spring. It includes everything from toys to clothes to electronics. This year I have to admit I’m focused on all the old tablets and phones we have laying around. Luckily, learning more about how to dispose of electronics has been easy!
I think my desire to declutter has to do with the holidays and the fact that both of my kids celebrate their birthdays during the Fall and Winter months. It just seems like a lot of new things come into our house in the last part of the year!
So I’m excited to have partnered with The Whiz Cells to share some of the ways I’m planning to take advantage of those old electronics we have sitting around! I’m going to clean up some space and make some money too! (That sounds like a win-win to me!)
HOW TO DISPOSE OF ELECTRONICS THE EASY WAY
When it comes to getting rid of old phones, tablets, laptops, and all of the other electronics, there are really three options. So it’s pretty simple to start with. You just have to figure out which one works best for you and the items you want to say goodbye to!
- Sell/Trade In
The other option is to just let them all sit around the house collecting dust. I’m guilty as charged on this one! I have three or four old phones, an old tablet, and I think a few laptops too. See why I needed to learn more about how to dispose of electronics?!
Once you know what you’re looking to get rid of, then you can figure out the best way to do it!
SELL YOUR OLD ELECTRONICS
We’ve ended up with a lot of old electronics because we’ve upgraded to newer models. I usually keep the old one as a “just in case” device, especially when it comes to my phone. If you do that enough times, you end up with a lot of extra old cell phones!
When it comes to deciding how to dispose of electronics, Justin’s favorite way is definitely selling them. He loves that he’s able to get some extra money and I love that we’re able to clear out the drawer of devices that are collecting dust.
Selling your old electronics is pretty simple. If you do decide to sell, be sure to delete all of your personal and private information from the devices. (You should always do this when you’re getting rid of them, no matter how you dispose of them!)
The Whiz Cells then makes it super easy to sell your old phone! All you have to do is give them the details about your device to get started. Then it follows a few simple steps:
- Get An Offer – This usually takes less than a minute once you’ve submitted your information.
- Ship It Free – Shipping is free for items worth $1 or more!
- Get Paid Fast – The Whiz Cells pays via Amazon Gift Card (my favorite), PayPal, or check.
It’s really one of the fastest ways to sell your old phone!
The Whiz Cells is an electronics recycler whose mission is to keep electronics in use as long as possible to help reduce the amount of waste in the landfills.
One great thing about The Whiz Cells is that they know how important security is so they also do a free Data Wipe of each device the moment they are received. Oh, and if you like value, The Whiz Cells generally pays about 10% more money per phone when compared to similar services!
During the Fall, selling your phone is a great way to declutter and earn some extra money for all those holiday expenses!

DONATE OLD ELECTRONICS
As a former teacher, I know how powerful technology can be in the lives of kids and also in the lives of those who don’t have a lot of access. So donation is something that I always look into when we have devices we’re done using.
With a donation, you want to make sure that the device is in good working order and that it has all of the necessary accessories. If we’re missing the charging cords or other important wires then I don’t do the donation.
If you do decide to donate your old electronics, make sure you have deleted all of your personal information of the device.
There’s more to it than just deleting your files. You want to wipe hard drives and make sure no private information is left on phones or tablets. If you’re not completely sure how to do that, there are people who can help! So don’t let that stop you!
But donating your old electronics is a great way to clear up some space in your house while helping someone else, so it’s always something I consider.
RECYCLE OLD DEVICES
When it comes to planning to dispose of electronics, the third option is to recycle your old phone or other devices. Recycling keeps them out of the landfills and is also super easy in most areas.
I recommend you clean off all of your personal and private data, just like with any other method. Then look into your local electronics and office supply stores. Many of them offer recycling programs.
If they don’t have a program, then you can also call your local trash disposal company and they should be able to give you the names of some local businesses that recycle electronics.
So if you’re ready to make a plan for how to dispose of electronics before we get too deep into a busy time of year, don’t be afraid! It’s simple to do and if you use a service like The Whiz Cells you could even come out with some extra money in addition to less clutter!
I’m ready to clean up more of these old devices we have stashed away in drawers, are you?
