Outdoor Halloween Decorating Tips
One thing our family loves to do is decorate for the holidays! It starts in October and continues through the end of the year!
For many years, I put off decorating the yard because I just wasn’t sure where to begin. Thankfully, Grambo has a knack for it and she’s helped me learn some super easy outdoor Halloween decorating tips that get us a great looking entry area each year!
We have a pretty good collection of Halloween decor, but this year the kids asked if we could also add some decorations with lights. meant we needed to make a trip to Walmart to pick up a few new things.
Because we have very limited outlets on the front of our house, I knew we were going to need some battery operated Halloween decorations.
By staying focused on our basic outdoor Halloween decorating tips, we were able to find some great new pieces at Walmart.
We were also able to stock up on RAYOVAC® batteries to make sure everything was we had plenty of power behind our decorations this year!
Check out how we tackled making our yard festive and fun this year without it being complicated at all! All you have to do is follow a few easy steps and you’ll be making holiday memories with ease too!
1. Choose an Area to Focus On
One of the things I always find challenging about outdoor Halloween decorating is that I feel like I have to cover our entire yard area to do a good job.
This actually makes it more challenging! Instead, focus your Halloween home decorating ideas on one area.
Some areas that you might focus on include:
- front door area
- porch or deck
- front walk
- front windows
- flower bed or garden area
- trees in your front yard
This year, we focused on a garden sitting area we have right next to our front door.
2. Focus on a Theme
After you’ve decided on the area you’re going to decorate, there are some great outdoor Halloween decorating tips on how to make it all work together.
The easiest thing for me is to pick a theme. It helps you figure out exactly what you want to use. This year we decided to go with a black and orange theme.
In the past, we’ve done ghosts and even more of a harvest theme with scarecrows. But this year my kids had some Halloween home decorating ideas of their own and those included having lights at night.
This is where our theme definitely helped me keep things focused so it didn’t get too complicated while we were shopping.
3. Keep It Simple
While you’re working on setting up your easy Halloween decorating ideas, focus on keeping it simple.
If you have a ton of Halloween decor like we do, focusing on your theme and the area you’re planning to decorate is the easiest way to keep it simple.
Decorating your house and yard successfully does not mean you have to have the most elaborate decorations! Simple often accomplishes the same effect.
So pull out all of your decor items and start eliminating items that don’t work with this year’s plan.
4. Light Up the Night
Adding lights or light up decorations is not one of my basic outdoor Halloween decorating tips, but I couldn’t resist the request from my kids!
I love Christmas lights so adding some Halloween decorations that we could show off once the sun sets definitely sounded like something I wanted to try.
We really did stick to our tips when it came to buying our new battery operated Halloween decorations at Walmart.
We focused on finding items that fit into our orange and black theme. (Even though there were some really cool purples and greens that caught my eye!)
By using battery operated decorations, we were able to be more flexible about placement. That is another thing that made it easy to put together all of our Halloween home decorating ideas this year!
Stopping at the Battery Quad near the check out at Walmart to pick up plenty of RAYOVAC® batteries made things a breeze too!
We got plenty of RAYOVAC® HIGH ENERGY™ and RAYOVAC® FUSION™ batteries to make sure we had enough power to keep our decorations running all month long.
The RAYOVAC® HIGH ENERGY™ batteries are guaranteed to provide us with long-lasting power in high use devices. Since we would be leaving some of the lights on for long stretches this month, I thought these were a great option for decorating.
The RAYOVAC® FUSION™ batteries are their longest lasting battery and are recommended for high drain devices. So they seemed like a good choice for this project too.
RAYOVAC® batteries have been powering American since 1996 and, except for the 9V, they’re produced in Fennimore, WI!
They have a power guarantee and will hold power for 10 years while in storage (5 years for the 9V). That means I can keep any batteries we don’t use this year for next year!
If you need to stock up for your easy Halloween decorating ideas, save money with these offers:
We love that our RAYOVAC® batteries last just as long as the leading competitors, but at a lower price point!
By choosing a smaller area, focusing on our theme, and keeping it simple, we have Halloween decorations that make our entire family smile!
With help from RAYOVAC, we’re also lighting up the night and feeling festive even after the sun goes down. It’s going to be great when the kids are trick treating on Halloween this year!
Remember that your easy Halloween decorating ideas can help you make some amazing memories! We have even more Halloween ideas that are great for families too!
