Kushies Baby designs is a company that manufactures and markets an innovative collection of quality baby products and accessories. I am most familiar with their cloth diapers, but was excited to discover that they offer a wide variety of baby products including bibs, layette, and even rainwear. I have been interested in the Kushies swim diapers as only a few brands make reusable swim diapers and when summer rolled around I knew we would need some swim diapers. So, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to finally try one of the Kushies Unisex Swimsuit Diapers.
The Kushies swim diapers come in a variety of color combinations and there are some wonderful combinations for girls, boys, and more gender neutral. They also offer a few prints. I like the selection that Kushies offers and I think you could definitely find something that worked for your child in case you wanted to use the swim diaper as a swimsuit as well.
The Kushies swim diaper has an adjustable waist that is secured with hook and loop closures as well as ties to help get a good fit on your baby. They come in 4 sizes so you can find one that fits your child based on their weight. Based on W’s weight I got the size large. It is designed to fit babies that weigh between 25 and 40 pounds. W weights just over 25 pounds now so he was at the low-end of the range but the medium is designed for 14-25 pounds so I went with bigger to ensure that it would fit him.
The swim diaper also features a gusseted leg. I’m a fan of gussets and really like the cloth diapers we have that feature gussets so I also like that the swim diaper offered them. It seems like a feature that is almost a necessity in a swim diaper since the goal is to keep the poo contained when in the pool!
We haven’t had the chance to test out the poo factor yet and I will admit that I hope the trend continues because I really don’t want to deal with a dirty swim diaper! I’m sure it will happen at some point in the future and I feel fairly confident that we will be okay if W is wearing the Kushies swim diaper.
When I put the diaper on W, I was pleased with the fit. I got a decent fit with the hook and loop closures so I’m not sure how necessary the tie closure is in our situation. It could be very helpful if you have a skinny baby.
The Kushies swim diaper is big on W right now but that was what I expected since he is at the bottom of the weight range. Although there is plenty of room for him to grow into the diaper, the fit around his legs and waist was still good. There was no gaping at all. I’m hoping that we will be able to use the Kushies swim diaper again next summer without having to size up.
Overall, I really like the design of the Kushies swim diaper. I like the coordinating trim which gives it a cute look. W has worn it with a red and white rash guard and it is a nice combination. These diapers retail for $9.99 and can be purchased at some major retailers including Amazon and Babies ‘R Us. To find additional retailers you can use the store locator or browse a list of retailers on the Kushies website.
