Although we don’t get much snow here in Texas, I’m a Colorado girl at heart. I was born and raised at the foot of the Rocky Mountains and saw my fair share of snow days. Although I have to admit that we didn’t get them as often as you might imagine. But if you’re facing a snow day, here are some fun Snow Day Activities and Ideas for Kids!
Snow Day Activities and Ideas for Kids
1. Do You Want to Build a Snowman?
This one is the most obvious. If the weather is nice enough, put that overabundance of snow to work for you! Break out the sleds and let the kids pull each other around. Get out some shovels and clear the driveway or build a fort. And if you’re brave, have a snowball fight! Don’t forget to make a snowman!
2. Snow Paint
It’s easy to turn snow into a work of art with a little snow paint. Add a few drops of food coloring to a squirt bottle or water gun and then get outside and start making art!
3. Sledding Experiments
Get the sleds out of the garage and hit the hill or pull the kids down the sidewalk. Then look around the house for different materials and see what makes the best sled. If you have older kids, challenge them to design their own sleds and put them to the test. What will work best? Will it be that cardboard box or the old cookie sheet?
4. Dig, Scoop, Fill, Dump
One of W’s favorite things to do is take different spoons, measuring cups, bowls, and other kitchen items out to play in the dirt. He loves to dig little holes, scoop up the dirt and fill bowls and cups before dumping it all out and starting again. Take everything out into the snow and it will be cleaner than making mud pies! Make some snow pies!
Getting outside to enjoy the snow is a great way to help your kids burn off extra energy. If the weather is too nasty to head outside, be sure to check out our ideas for Indoor Snow Day Activities!
