To wrap up my series on even greater affordability I must first make a confession. I’m going to confess that this post is based solely on research because I am not as crafty as I would like to be. Although I did win Home Ec student of the year in 8th grade, I do not sew at all. My mother and sister both sew and do it well, but the sewing gene must have skipped me. Nevertheless, if you are crafty and have talent in that area, you can save a lot of money on cloth diapers by sewing your own!
There are many diaper patterns available online that can help you get started. Remember many of our favorite cloth diaper makers started out sewing their own because they couldn’t find exactly what they wanted or what worked best for them. You could be the next big cloth diaper maker. If that happens, don’t forget me!
I won’t go on for too long on this subject because I have absolutely no experience with it, but I wanted to provide some links I discovered as I researched in case you are interested in sewing your own diapers. You can find a variety of free and paid diaper patterns at the following places:
- Zany Zebra Designs
- Kayla’s Cloth Kits
- The Nappy Network – Make Your Own Pocket
- Diaper Jungle – Make Your Own Cloth Wipes
- Sew Cloth Diapers
- Very Baby
I can’t attest to the quality of any of the resources and they are just a small sampling of what is available. If you have experience sewing your own diapers, I would love to hear more about any resources you’ve found and how you save money doing it!
