Tips for Encouraging a Picky Eater
As a mom I was certain that my children would be adventurous when it came to eating. I planned to offer them a wide variety of foods to cultivate their young palates. And I did just that. W was a fabulous eater when he was younger but since he has hit the toddler stage, it has become very difficult to get him to eat.
I want my children to grow up healthy and strong so I get stressed out sometimes when I think about my picky eater. As a mom, I want the best for my son. So that sent me on a hunt for tips to help encourage my picky eater.
Tip: Offer variety based on the familiar
One thing that has definitely helped me add a bit more variety in W’s diet is to stick with it. I have started offering a variety foods combined on foods I know he already likes. Kellogg’s cereal is a great help in my attempts. My son likes Rice Krispies so I often add a fruit to a bowl of cereal to encourage him to try the fruit.
Tip: Offer variety often
It can definitely get frustrating encouraging your child to try foods outside of their favorites. But hang in there and don’t give up! Keep trying but don’t stress yourself or your child out. I have found if I keep offering certain new foods, W eventually tries them and has found some new favorites that way!
Tip: Make eating fun
By making meal time more fun, you can encourage your child to try different foods. We have turned meal time into an art time by letting W decorate food with dipping sauces. W loves making crafts so making a Kellogg’s Snack Holder is a perfect way to encourage him! Make the snack holder together and then fill it with a healthy snack!
Sticking with my efforts to offer W a variety of foods and doing my best to make meal time and snack time fun is the way I am encouraging my picky eater!
