The best thing about burritos is that theyโ€™re so versatile. You can use almost anything as your filling and you can have an air fry burrito in minutes. Itโ€™s why this recipe has become a staple in our house especially on the busiest nights.

    Ingredients & Equipment

The ingredient list for air fried burritos is pretty simple. For this recipe as written, youโ€™ll need:

    • Refried beans
    • Diced tomatoes with green chiles (Rotel)
    • Shredded cheddar cheese
    • Tortillas

Full measurements can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. But remember that you can customize your burrito filling to your favorites or to your leftovers!

Youโ€™ll need a few things from the kitchen as well:

    • Large mixing bowl
    • Silicone spatula
    • Air Fryer
    • Measuring cups

    Step By Step Instructions

This recipe makes 6 burritos. It needs 2-3 minutes prep time and takes about 8 minutes per batch cooking time.

Step 1. Combine the refried beans, tomatoes with green chilies, and cheddar cheese in a large bowl. Stir to mix.

Step 2. Spoon the mixture in the center of a flour tortilla. Fold one side over the top of the bean mixture, then fold each end over.

Step 3. Continue filling and rolling the burritos until all the filling has been used.

Step 4. Preheat the air fryer to 350ยฐF. If your air fryer does not have a preheat setting, set it to cook for 5 minutes.

Step 5. Place the burritos in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd the basket.

Step 6. Cook the burritos for 6 to 8 minutes, until crisp. Exact cooking time will depend on how large your burritos are. Check them at 5 minutes to see how crispy the tortilla is getting.

Step 7. Continue cooking in batches until all the burritos have been cooked.

Step 8.ย Enjoy as a snack or serve with your favorite side dishes!

What To Put In a Burrito

If youโ€™re looking for burrito filling ideas besides beans and cheese, try some of these:

    Proteins:

    • Shredded chicken (seasoned or grilled)
    • Ground beef (taco-seasoned)
    • Carnitas (slow-cooked pork)
    • Chorizo sausage
    • Steak strips
    • Shredded turkey
    • Black beans
    • Pinto beans
    • Refried beans
    • Tofu (seasoned or grilled)
    • Scrambled eggs (for breakfast burritos)

    Veggies:

    • Bell peppers (grilled or diced)
    • Onions (caramelized or raw)
    • Corn (roasted or fresh)
    • Spinach
    • Zucchini
    • Mushrooms
    • Sweet potato (cubed and roasted)
    • Jalapeรฑos (fresh or pickled)
    • Tomatoes or salsa

    Grains:

    • White rice (seasoned with lime or cilantro)
    • Brown rice
    • Spanish rice
    • Quinoa
    • Cauliflower rice

    Cheese:

    • Cheddar
    • Monterey Jack
    • Pepper Jack
    • Queso fresco
    • Mozzarella (for a melty option)

    Sauces & Spices:

    • Guacamole or avocado slices
    • Sour cream
    • Chipotle mayo
    • Salsa (mild, medium, or hot)
    • Enchilada sauce
    • Taco seasoning
    • Cilantro lime dressing
    • Hot sauce

    Extras:

    • Lettuce or shredded cabbage
    • Fresh cilantro
    • Diced red onion
    • Green onions
    • Pickled red onions
    • Roasted garlic

Mix and match these to create as many flavor combos for your air fryer burritos as you can come up with! I seriously love how flexible this recipe is!

    Leftovers Storage & Reheating

    • Storing leftovers: You can store leftover burritos in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 203 days. I recommend wrapping them in plastic wrap before putting in the container to help maintain their shape and so they donโ€™t dry out.
    • How to reheat a burrito in the air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 350ยฐF for a few minutes. Then place the burritos in the basket and heat for 4-5 minutes or until completely warmed.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Donโ€™t overfill your burritos! It makes them hard to close and out in the air fryer.
    • Donโ€™t crowd your air fryer basket. Leave space around each burrito so the hot air can circulate well and get them nice and crispy!
    • If you want a softer burrito, wrap it in aluminum foil and then put it in the air fryer.
    • If youโ€™re cooking more than one burrito at a time, do not stack them. Place them side by side in a single layer in the air fryer basket.

    FAQs

Can I make air fryer burritos ahead of time?

Absolutely and itโ€™s actually a great way to have easy snacks or dinner on hand. Prep your burritos and then wrap them in plastic wrap and put them in the refrigerator. When youโ€™re ready to cook them, heat up the air fryer, and youโ€™ll have an easy dinner or snack in minutes!

How long to cook frozen burritos in air fryer?

My recipe is for homemade burritons in the air fryer. But the great thing is that you can also use the air fryer to cook frozen burritos. Preheat the air fryer to 375ยฐF. Air fry the burritos for 10-12 minutes or until heated completely.

I recommend turning the frozen burritos halfway through the cooking time. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model and the brand of frozen burrito youโ€™re making.
