Tater tots have always been my husband’s favorite side dish with burgers and fries. He prefers tater tots over fries. I don’t like to fry much food around our house because we are trying to eat a little healthier. That’s where these tater tots in the air fryer come in handy.

My family can still enjoy their favorite crunchy side dish without all the fat of deep frying. I know that your family will also enjoy this delicious side dish.

Frozen Tater Tots in the Air Fryer – FAQ

    What are tater tots?

Tater tots are basically boiled, grated potatoes formed into the shape of a small cylinder and deep-fried.

Why are frozen tater tots in the air fryer so good?

The benefit of an air fryer is that they cook from the outside in. So they stay crispy on the outside and tender inside.

No matter what you are cooking, if it can be fried, there’s a good chance it will taste good when cooked in a fast convection oven with forced hot air. These frozen tater tots in the air fryer are no different.

I love how crispy these tater tots turn out in the air fryer.

What size air fryer is best for tater tots?

There aren’t any special considerations when it comes to choosing an air fryer for cooking tater tots.

You can use any size air fryer that you have on hand. However, if you overload your basket your tots do not get crispy.

Be sure to keep the tater tots in a single layer when you place them in the air fryer.

Ninja is a popular brand, but really an air fryer works great once you get to know how your model works!

Are Ore Ida tater tots good in the air fryer?

Yes! Once you learn how to cook frozen tater tots in the air fryer, your life will be changed. You can have crispy golden brown crunchy Ore Ida Tater Tots at a moment’s notice.

How many tater tots fit in an air fryer basket?

The amount of frozen tater tots you can cook in your fryer at one time depends entirely on the size of the basket. You will find that if you have a smaller air fryer like a 2 quart, you can get about 8 – 10 tater tots in a single layer in your air fryer basket.

How do you make frozen tater tots crispy?

Cook them in the air fryer!

Seriously, this is the best way I’ve found to make frozen tots.

What goes good on tater tots?

The options for topping your air fryer tater tots are endless. Your favorite French fry toppings can work in your tater tots also. Here are a few things that my family enjoys topping our tater tots with:

    • cheese
    • sour cream
    • green onions
    • cooked bacon
    • cheese dip
    • chili
    • pulled pork
    • ranch

AIR FRYER TATER TOTS FROM FROZEN

This recipe makes 4 servings. It takes just moments to prepare and requires 12-18 minutes of cooking time, depending on your air fryer model.

You will need the following ingredients:

    • 4 cups frozen tater tots
    • Nonstick cooking spray
    • Salt (to taste)

You’ll also need your air fryer. You can use either a basket-type fryer or an oven type for this recipe.

Cook for 12-18 minutes, removing the basket to toss the tots after 8-9 minutes. (Cooking time will vary based on your air fryer model.)

When the cooking time is up, spray the tater tots again with nonstick cooking spray and season with salt before serving.

It only takes about 10 to 15 minutes to heat your air fryer up and cook frozen tater tots in the air fryer.

What temperature should I cook frozen tater tots?

Once your air fryer is preheated to 400°F, you can cook frozen tater tots in the air fryer for 10 – 15 minutes.

How long can leftover tater tots be stored?

If you have cooked frozen tater tots in the air fryer and they have been stored properly, they will stay fresh-tasting up to 3 days after being cooked and refrigerated properly.

For best quality, refrigerate leftovers in resealable bags or shallow storage containers.

How do you cook leftover tater tots?

If you have leftover tater tots and you want to reheat them in your air fryer, place them in your air fryer basket and reheat at 350°F for 3 to 5 minutes or until they are warm and crispy again.
