Thank you Alex Toys for sponsoring this post.
We’ve hit the time of year when I’ve got gift-giving on my mind, along with impending school breaks. My kids both have birthdays at the end of the year so I’ve got to think about birthday gifts and holiday gifts. I also have to think about ways to keep them busy when they’re home from school. We have fall break, Thanksgiving break, and winter break! I’ve spent quite a few years depending on Alex Toys arts and crafts kits to help keep the kids busy.
This year is no exception! Check out why we’re loving our new Loopies!
LOOPIES
My kids both like to get creative and spend a lot of time drawing and crafting. Lately, Carrigan has wanted to do even more. She wants to learn how to sew and is always cutting and gluing to make her own creations. Sometimes she makes fashion accessories for herself and sometimes she makes little toy friends to play with.
Loopies are perfect for kids with interests like hers. They’re a fun way for kids to create their own plush friend! If your child is interested in sewing or knitting, these kits are a great option. They offer a way for them to create without too many complicated steps. It’s a great way to introduce them to the concepts.
HOW LOOPIES WORK
The final products from the kits are adorable plush characters that look complex, but really, they’re perfect for the kids to do in a few easy steps.
Loopies are available in a variety of characters including:
- Unicorn
- Dog
- Cat
- Panda
- Penguin
- Lion
I like that there are a variety of character options. It makes it easier to find one that your child likes. Carrigan is a huge fan of dogs and unicorns so those two kits were perfect for us.
She chose to make the unicorn first and was able to follow a few simple steps and have her own plush pal!
The Loopies kit comes with a pre-sewn character that has a mesh pocket. All you need is a pair of scissors, everything else is included in the kit.
- Cut the yarn bundle into smaller pieces (about three arm lengths long).
- Fill the mesh pocket with yarn. Then begin pulling the yarn partially through the holes with the crochet hook. Continue down the row, pulling the yarn through to make loops. (The yarn does not have to be pulled through every hole because the texture of the yarn will fill it out.)
- To add features like the face, hands, feet, and tail, use the crochet hook to pull existing loops through the holes in the shape. (The included shapes depend on the kit and the features of the character).
If your child makes a mistake pulling the loops through, they can carefully pull the yarn back into the pocket and try it again.
The steps to making the plush toy are easy but the kit does take time to complete. That makes it a great option for school breaks. Loopies will keep them busy when they’re home from school, especially once the weather cools off and they don’t spend as much time outside.
I’ll admit that I had fun working on the Loopies unicorn too!
WHY WE LIKE LOOPIES
Loopies are a great gift option because they’re a hands-on activity. Recently I’ve tried to give more gifts that get my kids involved in hands-on creative or learning experiences. They seem to love them and I like seeing the proud looks on their faces when they’ve created something on their own!
Carrigan loved creating her Loopies characters because they look a lot like the types of characters she’s been learning to draw. So her creative interests are crossing paths and inspiring her to create even more! She’s got some great ideas for how she can incorporate her new Unicorn into some of her drawings and she also wants to make more of the Loopies characters!
