Amwell Review – 5 Ways It Makes Life Easier
We all lead very busy lives so when illness or a condition rears its ugly head, it can feel like something you just don’t have time to deal with. Of course, as parents, we somehow find the time to make the call and get our kids in to see the doctor.
While I love our family doctor, it can be hard to get an appointment with her on short notice. There are other physicians in the office that we can see if she’s not available, but she’s the reason we go to the practice.
So if I can’t get an appointment with her, I often look for the easiest way to see a doctor. For us, that’s often a local clinic but with the development of websites and apps like Amwell telemedicine, I now have a solution that makes it easy to care for my family when they’re not feeling well or have something bothering them.
That’s what I want to share with you in my Amwell review — so many ways that the app is helping me feel more confident about handling my family’s sick days!
1. Amwell Doctors are Always Available
Availability is a huge thing for me. It seems like kids often end up feeling bad right after the doctor’s office has closed for the day or even for the weekend! That leaves me facing a trip to urgent care for something that may or may not really need that kind of visit (or the price of that kind of visit).
Amwell is open 24 hours a day! The doctors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
I can log onto the Amwell app at any time and easily get connected with physicians online who can help me handle things like flu, strep throat, headaches, pink eye and more!
And if you’re like me and end up at home with a phone that is barely charged (or you don’t have the app yet), you can get the same service on the Amwell website!
2. Get Healthcare from Anywhere
We love to travel. Trust me when I say that illness doesn’t care if you’re on vacation or not. We learned that last year when Grambo got really sick while we were in Florida.
Obviously, there was no way we could get in to see our doctor here in Houston. One of the huge things I want to share in this Amwell review is that this is healthcare that goes anywhere with you. That is a powerful thing for busy families.
Whether you’re at home, traveling, or happen to be stuck waiting for a sports practice to be over for one child while the other one isn’t feeling well, you can get a consultation with an Amwell doctor!
3. No Appointments Needed
The best part is that you don’t have to worry about fitting an appointment into your already busy schedule. Instead of being at the whim of what the doctor’s office has available, you can log on to the Amwell app and start your visit.
(This also means you can avoid the waiting room that makes me nervous this time of year!)
Here’s how it works:
- Enroll and create an account on the Amwell app or on the website. All of your information will be stored securely for any future visits you make.
- Look over the list of available doctors and choose which one you’d like to have your consultation with. You’re able to learn about their experience and review ratings before you make your choice.
- Choose your local pharmacy in case you’re given a prescription as part of your Amwell visit.
- Start your video visit!
It’s pretty simple to get started and get the medical help that you need! Amwell says that most appointments only take about ten minutes! So you can make it fit into your schedule without having to make major changes for the day!
I definitely prefer using the app because of the convenience factor!
4. Amwell is Affordable
The biggest question I had before trying the app was about the Amwell cost. As part of our Amwell review, I did a little research before I logged in for our visit.
Did you know that for many people, urgent care telehealth visits are covered by insurance? Amwell works with a variety of insurance companies!
You can find out if your visit will be covered by your insurance when you sign up. All you have to do is sign up for a free account then you’ll be able to enter your insurance information.
When you log in to visit with a healthcare provider, a payment screen will come up before the visit.
That screen will show you your Amwell cost. It will either be your copay or the low cash price of $59! I loved that the app was very upfront about the cost!
You can also use the code MOM37 when you have your online visit to save 25%! The code is good through 12/31/18.
5. The Experience is So Simple
The most important point in my Amwell review is that it really is an asset for busy families. When anyone in my family is under the weather, the first thing that I think about is what I’m going to have to do to get them in to see the doctor.
My thoughts aren’t pretty as I begin mentally rearranging my day (or week) and hoping that the doctor’s office can see us without having to wait too long.
When Carrigan woke up with a rash on her back recently, I was a bit concerned because it was pretty intense. I kept my eye on it for a day to see if it would get worse or just go away. It did look better the next day but I was still worried about it. I wasn’t sure if it was an allergic reaction to something or a sign of something else.
Because we had a busy day full of errands to run and activities, it was much easier to meet with a doctor without the time involved in a last-minute appointment at the doctor’s office. We logged on to the Amwell app on my phone and a few minutes later we were chatting with a doctor, all from the comfort of our home. I didn’t have to take Carrigan out in the cold weather to sit in a waiting room during this intense flu season!
I was able to show the doctor the rash and discuss some possibilities for what it was before we came up with a plan for treating it!
