5 Ways Amwell Makes Life Easier During Winter

    Entertainment & Technology

Winter is one of my favorite seasons. I loved it when I was growing up in Colorado and I still enjoy it now that I live in Texas. I love the holidays and my birthday is in February. I also love sweatshirts and thick socks so I’m a fan of cooler weather.

But I’m not a fan of the coughs, colds, and sniffles that seem to come along with colder weather. Combine them with it being a very busy time for our family and it can be a bit stressful for mom. Amwell makes it easier for us to get the urgent care we need so we don’t miss out on the parties, special events, and the beginning of Spring baseball (which starts in January around here)!

5 WAYS AMWELL MAKES LIFE EASIER DURING WINTER

We all lead very busy lives so when illness or a condition rears its ugly head, it can feel like something you just don’t have time to deal with. Of course, as parents, we somehow find the time to make the call and get our kids in to see the doctor.

While I love our family doctor, it can be hard to get an appointment with her on short notice. There are other physicians in the office that we can see if she’s not available, but she’s the reason we go to the practice.

So if I can’t get an appointment with her, I often look for the easiest way to see a doctor. For us, that’s often a local clinic but with services like Amwell telemedicine, I now have a solution that makes it easy to care for my family when they’re not feeling well or have something bothering them.

There are five ways Amwell is helping me make it through winter cold and flu season.

Availability is a huge thing for me. It seems like kids often end up feeling bad right after the doctor’s office has closed for the day or even for the weekend! That leaves me facing a trip to urgent care for something that may or may not really need that kind of visit (or the price of that kind of visit).

During the holiday season, I cringe a little if I hear the kids cough because I know we have so many special events planned that they want to participate in.

Thankfully, Amwell is open 24 hours a day! The doctors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

So far we’ve dealt with allergies, a pretty intense cold, and stomach flu. We haven’t even made it to the true holiday stretch. Not to mention those weeks in January when the kids go back to school again.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be needing help from an Amwell physician a few more times this winter.

We love to travel, especially during the winter months. Trust me when I say that illness doesn’t care if you’re on vacation or not. We learned that last year when Grambo got really sick while we were in Florida for Christmas.

Obviously, there was no way we could get in to see our doctor here in Houston. One of the best things about Amwell is that healthcare that goes anywhere with you. That is a powerful thing for busy families.

Whether you’re at home, traveling, or happen to be stuck waiting for a sports practice to be over for one child while the other one isn’t feeling well, you can get a consultation with an Amwell doctor!

    3. NO APPOINTMENTS NEEDED

Another great thing about Amwell is that you don’t have to worry about fitting an appointment into your already busy schedule. Instead of being at the whim of what the doctor’s office has available, you can log on to the Amwell app and start your visit.

This also means you can avoid the waiting room that makes me nervous this time of year! The last thing we need is picking up something while we wait to get checked out. With a daughter who seems to get sick anytime she’s near someone with an illness, this is something I try to avoid.

Amwell says that most consultations only take about ten minutes! So you can make it fit into your schedule without having to make major changes for the day! That’s convenience which is exactly what I look for in my life!

    4. AMWELL IS AFFORDABLE

Did you know that for many people, urgent care telehealth visits are covered by insurance? Amwell works with a variety of insurance companies!

You can find out if your visit will be covered by your insurance when you sign up. All you have to do is sign up for a free account then you’ll be able to enter your insurance information.

When you log in to visit with a healthcare provider, a payment screen will come up before the visit. That screen will show you your Amwell cost. It will either be your copay or the low cash price of $69!

You can also use the code Amwell25 when you have your online visit for 25% off a $69 urgent care visit!

    5. THE EXPERIENCE IS SO SIMPLE

When anyone in my family is under the weather, the first thing that I think about is what I’m going to have to do to get them in to see the doctor.

My thoughts aren’t pretty as I begin mentally rearranging my day (or week) and hoping that the doctor’s office can see us without having to wait too long.

When Carrigan woke up with a rash on her back recently, I was a bit concerned because it was pretty intense. I kept my eye on it for a day to see if it would get worse or just go away. It did look better the next day but I was still worried about it. I wasn’t sure if it was an allergic reaction to something or a sign of something else.

This is something we deal with from time to time with her. So figuring out how to get the medical care we need for my peace of mind is always a dilemma.

We had a busy day full of errands to run and activities as we were preparing for her upcoming birthday. Yes, in the middle of the busy holiday season, my kids both celebrate their birthdays! It’s a little crazy around here.

With Amwell, it was much easier to meet with a doctor without the time involved in a last-minute appointment at the doctor’s office. We logged on to the Amwell app on my phone and a few minutes later we were chatting with a doctor, all from the comfort of our home. I didn’t have to take Carrigan out in the cold weather to sit in a waiting room during the beginning of flu season around here.

I was able to show the doctor the rash and discuss some possibilities for what it was before we came up with a plan for treating it!

During the winter months, when cold and flu season reach their peak, getting the urgent care consultations we need with the convenience factor I look for make my life as a busy mom easier. While Amwell isn’t a replacement for emergency care, it’s nice to be able to handle things like fever, stomach bugs, colds, and rashes from the comfort from our home!
